On the recent riots and other things

England looking at cracking down on social media sites over the recent violence. Just like other oppressive regimes.

Stop calling violent riots flash mobs.

Self defense in the UK.

Take back your right to arms.

The riots still look to fit the definition of Flash mob that is listed in wikipedia. (For no better place to quote.)

A Flash Mob is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and sometimes seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment and/or satire. Flash mobs are organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails.

I don’t see how the violent acts of the rioters has any point and the rioting is unusual.

Maybe they need a new term. Flash Riot maybe?

This problem, like most distopian social issues, has been addressed in science fiction literature.

From Wikipedia: In 1973, the story “Flash Crowd” by Larry Niven described a concept similar to flash mobs.

Mr. Niven hypothesized a transporter system by which mobs could aggregate quite quickly. His solution was to reprogram the transporters to deliver the crowd to a detention center at the command of the authorities. No such solution exists for the current situation.

However, there used to be these things called “Paddy Wagons,” apparently named in a racist manner after their usual Irish transportees, where the police would gather up the members of a mob and put them in these large trucks and haul them off to the station for charging and trial.

I don’t see why the local police cannot do something similar here, even if it means turning off the cell phone service for the affected area to prevent communication among the rioters.

As I recall, flash mobs were something usually involving some odd or amusing activity – usually organized via some sort of social media or just plain old texting. Up to this point, the worst thing a flash mob was known for doing was an organized protest of one kind or other.

Obviously, the term “flash mob” is being machinegunned into the public psyche so that when the time comes for police to go full-on jackbooted thug on these groups (making no distinction between peaceful and violent), there will be little if any talk about excessive force. At that point, as far as most peoples’ subconscious is concerned, “Flash mob = Riot”. Thus, we will slouch another few steps toward the ideal police state.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
