The crazy can be fatal

Some folks who thought the apocalypse was coming:

A California woman named Lyn Benedetto was one of millions who heard Camping’s message, and became concerned that her daughters would suffer terribly in the coming apocalypse. She allegedly forced her daughters, 11 and 14, to lie on a bed and then cut their throats with a box cutter. She then tried to kill herself, though police arrested Benedetto and all three survived.

Others were not so lucky. An elderly man in Taiwan reportedly killed himself on May 5 ahead of the Rapture by jumping out of a building. He had heard that doomsday was imminent, and had taken recent earthquakes and tsunamis as early warning signs.

There were other unconfirmed reports of doomsday-related suicides around the world as well.

Market Forces

MRS: I think I want to start a business that will try to, for a very affordable fee, harden your home against forced entry (solid doors, armored glass, etc).

Correlation

The Paper of Making Up The Record notes:

Steady Decline in Major Crime Baffles Experts.

The number of violent crimes in the United States dropped significantly last year, to what appeared to be the lowest rate in nearly 40 years, a development that was considered puzzling partly because it ran counter to the prevailing expectation that crime would increase during a recession.

In all regions, the country appears to be safer. The odds of being murdered or robbed are now less than half of what they were in the early 1990s, when violent crime peaked in the United States

Lets see, since the 1990s, more folks have bought more guns. And a lot more states legalized carrying firearms.

A wallet style holster from Concealed Carry Comfort called the Pocket Pal 380:

From Gun Porn

Interesting. Though I have to wonder if it would cause your gun to be classified as an AOW.

A few recipients of stimulus money were already getting stimulated by not paying taxes.

The war on some noun

Moving from law toward rule, one busybody project at a time. Except now, the busybodies have machine guns and wear body armor.

I wonder what laws I can get waivers for

Selective enforcement of Obamacare indicates it’s a bad law for everyone. Selective enforcement of the law is the first sign of tyranny.

Acting at your peril

The NSSF has a bit on willful violations of the 68 Gun Control Act. Turns out, willful doesn’t mean what you think it means.

Preparedness Perspective

Tam: So far this year over 500 people in the US have been killed by tornadoes, while there hasn’t been a single confirmed zombie bite.

Now, I have to get rapture ready again

Oops, my bad:

A California preacher who foretold of the world’s end only to see the appointed day pass with no extraordinarily cataclysmic event has revised his apocalyptic prophecy, saying he was off by five months and the Earth actually will be obliterated on Oct. 21.

Math errors, apparently.

More on the Guerena shooting

this was not a legitimate search warrant.

This case is getting very frightening. More from Tam, with a special note for the sheriff.

Stopping terrorists

Jeffy Weffy: The way to get the terrorists to stop shooting people is to make it possible to easily shoot them back.

Yeah, the most damaging case of Jihad Joe was at a cafeteria where everyone else was unarmed.

It’s like the opposite of the civil rights act

The governor has signed a law that prohibits cities from enacting nondiscrimination policies different from the state’s. This would mean it’s ok to discriminate against homosexuals for people who are scared of gay cooties. It’s a dumb law. But that seems to be what our legislature is about these days, passing some stupid laws. Not so much on the stuff I thought we elected them to do.

Going back to cali

From The Second Amendment Foundation:

The Second Amendment Foundation and Calguns Foundation have filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in California, seeking to have the state’s definition of so-called “assault weapons” declared unconstitutionally vague.

Joining SAF and Calguns in the lawsuit is Brendan John Richards, an Iraq combat veteran who served as a U.S. Marine, and whose arrest and six-day incarceration in the Sonoma County jail – and subsequent dismissal of all charges – was the catalyst for this legal action. Named as defendants are California Attorney General Kamala Harris, the California Department of Justice, the City of Rohnert Park and police officer Dean Becker.
