Oh please let this be true

Hell yeah:

Rep. Ron Paul (R., Texas), who wants to abolish the Federal Reserve, could end up overseeing it as part of the Republican takeover of the House of Representatives.

Paul is the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology on the House Financial Services Committee, which has oversight for the Fed, the U.S. Mint and U.S. interaction with the World Bank, Politico points out.

OC in CT

Richard Burgess is making a push for it. And getting arrested by police who don’t know the law.

Loitering with a gun

Or, you know, waiting for a bus. Police ask man to leave bus stop and he doesn’t, since he’s waiting for a bus. They arrest him and take his gun and license. So, the next day, he does it again with the same results. That’s right. Loitering at a bus stop, let it sink in. Same bus stop he uses every day. But this is the part that struck out at me:

Police think that Solomon was being insolent and used poor judgment, including by showing up armed at the same bus stop at which he was arrested the previous day.

“If he’s that defiant, should this guy have a gun?” said Sgt. Ray Evers, a police spokesman. “The most uncommon human trait is common sense. He’s not using good, adult judgment.”

So, he was arrested for contempt of cop?

Local Hipster: Why Do East Tennesseans Love Their Guns?

Jesse Fox Mayshark has an article in the local alt weekly on just that. It’s a good piece, light on hysteria that I expect from an alt weekly and Jesse. One quibble:

On one side are people who don’t own, carry, or want guns. Whether they’ve studied the issue closely or not, they tend to believe that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution has something to do with state militias and little to do with a personal right to firearms.

The collective rights mythology has been rejected by all three branches of government and public opinion. It is a myth and always has been. Even in its heyday, that myth was not supported by significant numbers of people. And the Brady Campaign wiped all references to that creation science from its webpage. I’m guessing that, in East Tennessee, if you asked 10 people about the second amendment not a single one would yammer on about state militias.

SIG762

The Firearm Blog reports Sig is coming out with their Sig556 in 7.62×39. Very cool It’s basically an AK anyway.

Update on the challenge to NY’s permitting process

John Richardson notes some procedural things in the case.

We’re winning

In FL:

A Tampa TV station wants to do a 4-minute point/counterpoint piece on open carry, but they are having a hard time finding someone who is pro 2A but anti open carry. All of the anti-2A people they have found have been nut balls! They called police agencies in the Tampa area but no one is anti open carry!

Gun Porn

That is cool. It’s not $2K cool. But it’s cool

Slug Gun, that you can win.

AZ man arrested in DC with guns in his vehicle. He looked suspicious. My guess is he’s a tourist and just had his firearms in his vehicle like he does back home.

Ammo Bans Violate Second Amendment

In DC:

[F]rom the Court’s reasoning [in Heller], it logically follows that the right to keep and bear arms extends to the possession of handgun ammunition in the home; for if such possession could be banned (and not simply regulated), that would make it “impossible for citizens to use [their handguns] for the core lawful purpose of self-defense.” By the same token, given the obvious connection between handgun ammunition and the right protected by the Second Amendment, we are hard-pressed to see how a flat ban on the possession of such ammunition in the home could survive heightened scrutiny of any kind. We therefore conclude that the Second Amendment guarantees a right to possess ammunition in the home that is coextensive with the right to possess a usable handgun there.

It’s not all good, though. Seems they’d be OK with a ban on ammo for which you do not have a registered gun.

TN AG on carrying firearms

A memorandum here. Looks like Embody’s challenge to the carry laws is getting some attention. The AG says the challenge based on constitutionality isn’t gonna fly.

Man loses gun permits to own for being a “habitual drunkard”. Sounds like a good opportunity for a lawsuit to me.

Me, apparently:

Strange.

Seen here.

Dogma

How can someone stumble, falter and win with a 3 to 1 margin? The spin from the local press regarding guns is amusing. They really don’t get it.

Buyback program

Dentists buying back Halloween candy.

Overwhelming

No doubt, the Brady Campaign will declare this a victory:

An amendment to the Kansas Constitution that was drafted to declare a person’s right to own guns for any lawful purpose was approved overwhelming by voters in Tuesday’s election. With 2,291 of 3,315 precincts reporting, the amendment had received 569,876 “yes” votes to 77,520 “no” votes.

Gun Rights in NC

The GOP controls both houses for the first time in 112 years. Good opportunity for gun rights.

After Glow

Some random stuff about the election.

A common theme: Don’t fuck this up.

Racist teabaggers!

Not a bug, a feature:

The GOP won majority control of the House but not the Senate, and some Republicans were quick to blame the tea party for the failure to clinch both chambers in an election trending strongly against the Democratic majorities in Congress.

Few democrats who voted for the health care bill survived. We tried to warn them. But they called us racists instead.

Scaring the brits is just a bonus.

Polishing Turds

The Brady Campaign is apparently delusional about the election results. Meanwhile, Kopel looks at numbers.

They’re declaring victory!

Bleg: Technology and Kids

The wife got a Droid Incredible which she likes. It befuddles me because two weeks ago she couldn’t even answer my Droid when it rang and now she can’t live without hers. Kids are really into various games on our phones so I’ve been thinking about getting them an android tablet PC or maybe buying someone’s old phone that they don’t use anymore and using it with the wifi. This android tablet looks OK. Anyone have any experience with either of these plans?

The right to hunt and fish

In TN, it passed. The text of the amendment seems timid. When it comes to the .gov, all regulations are reasonable regulations.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
