Morning Cheer

Ten industries that may not recover.

Pharmaceuticals will recover, it just has a lot farther to fall before it does. The FDA has to change a bit too, which would help. The fundamental problem with the industry is that all the easy drugs have been found, and the research paradigm for finding new drugs only works if the targets are easy.

I wonder how Pharma will do when the full hammerstroke of ObamaCare falls? I work for a Medical Research Supply Company (the kind of company that supplies Pharma with lab equipment and reagents) and they are not excited. Something about “taking the profit out of medicine” leads to “taking investment out of medical/drug research”.

Not sure if losing Realtors, Newspapers, or Bank Tellers is so awful. My gf and I acquired a realtor when we were looking for our new house last year, but she never showed us any homes, nor did we need her for any of the paperwork with the bank or builder. And we made out like bandits regardless. In retrospect, I can’t for the life of me remember why we bothered. Newspapers? Who needs ’em? And bank tellers? Ditto. I do all my banking online or at the ATM.

Next you will ask us to morn the loss of hairdressers and telephone sanitizers.

  5. Oakenheart Says:

Now Trackerk, the loss of telephone sanitizers didn’t work out so well for the golgafrinchans!

  6. Drang Says:

Too bad we can’t replace #1 with Federal jobs…

  7. SPQR Says:

Oh, come on, state and local government jobs? They’ve had the least job losses over the last couple of years.

    Play the violin.

Just this very Friday morning, I made a pass through my lumberyard on the way to a basement job.
This 100+ year old professional, family-owned yard is the only place I really care to do business.
Yet, there were only three vans in the place on a beautiful September morning, normally the busiest month for remodelers, mine and two from a larger outfit whose success is a marvel.
After nearly 39 years in the business of working on houses, I finally had to admit this morning that the time has come to hang up my toolbelt and find something else to do.
It’s hard to describe how sad of a moment this is.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
