The Narrative

Yesterday, I noted the Paper of making up the Record going on about Utah and their evil gun laws. And it looks like the other biased Washington paper got the same memo.

The Geek is likely right:

I think the difference is that this time, post Heller/McDonald, they smell the inevitable “full faith and credit” play for universal reciprocity coming, and so positioning buckets of poison near the wells is in their interest.

Well, for inhabitants of free states FF&C reciprocity is dandy. But for us residents of the various Mordors, I am expecting the non-resident licenses to go away. Non-rez licenses are a hack around lack of reciprocity. I can’t get a non-rez driver’s license, IIRC.

(Yes, I know that eventually we will go at least shall-issue if there’s any integrity on SCOTUS. Eventually is measured in years and SCOTUS demonstrates their integrity all the time).

I wasn’t aware any of the Mordor’s accepted out of state permits. Maryland came kinda close this past session… Close for Maryland. It might have been 40% for. A HUGE number. For us.

It only costs a couple of bucks to get out of NJ, not (as is often believed) a soul – I just got back from a trip to VA over the holiday weekend (and whoever is responsible for the NRA HQ range reopening slipping a day is in for some ire from me, let me tell you) and have been known to slip across the Delaware river from time to time as well. As near as I can tell, any number of states will cheerfully offer me a non-rez permit that will let me do in PA or VA (while hidden) what NJ will not let me do anyplace but the home or range (that is, touch my pistol). I’ve looked sort of vaguely into VA and FL; having been given to understand that PA won’t grant me one if I don’t have a home-state permit (though someone suggested that the FID might count). FL has the bonus (at least right now) of having Charles Bronson’s chop on it. Hell, it looks like DE will recognize either of those, so of the states I enter with any regularity, only MD and NY would deny me my rights were I to have a piece of paper with Charles Bronson’s chop on it. And I’m trying to cut back on entering Mordor on the Hudson North anyway. (Sadly, theres no practical way to avoid Mordor on the Chesapeake if I want to end my peregrinations in the vincinity of the NRA HQ).

So, a non-rez permit won’t help me here – but it would be an enormous comfort when hauling the heaters out of state.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
