Starbucks Responds

Short version: We don’t want to be at the center of your political hobby horse. But please buy our coffee.

I don’t know about you, but that’s all I was asking for. 😉

I don’t like their over-priced, over-caffeinated, overtly-pretentious coffee. But I’m glad they responded as they did.

Reminds me of an old “Murphy Brown” episode where all the advertisers to her show are scared off by a boycott organizer. All except for the ultra conservative cupcake maker, who points out that comments about his product are welcomed from the public, but that NOBODY is going to stifle free speech using his company as a proxy. This was one of the few episodes of that show that exhibited a respectful attitude toward conservative viewpoints.

Budd Schulberg, “A Face in The Crowd,” 1957. Mattresses. You’ll recognize everybody in it.
Schulberg also wrote “On The Waterfront.”
My kind of communist (well, I can say that now; he’s dead).

“We think we have a good product and if you have a need or want of it, we’d like to engage in a bit of commerce with you. Outside of that, we’re going to stay out of your business.”

I can’t think of a marketing strategy that appeals to me more.

I don’t think it was intentional, but let’s not allow Starbucks to be used as our political hobby horse. It’s the statists that are always willing to use people as pawns for their political gain, not us.

They’re essentially saying, “If it’s legal then leave us alone.”

That’s all I want to be – just left alone. To me this is the perfect ending to this Starbucks debate.

Exactly. Get some SB coffee in their shops. Buy their lattes-in-a-can at your local Stop-N-Rob. Get SB coffee by the pound at your local grocery.

But don’t make a big deal of it. “Don’t applaud, just throw money.” SB has asked nicely to not be the center of this, so let’s show some class and comply. And if the gun grabbers continue to whine about the subject…how do you think that will make them look?

    Yep. 😉

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
