The reality is that most hunters in this area are better served by an AR-15 than with more conventional hunting weapons. They are easier to carry to a tree stand, the relatively light weight makes climbing easier, and they are handier when you are on stand.

While some look askance at the .223 cartridge, they have plenty of range and power for game taken in thick brush.

I would have liked to see a little more emphasis on the array of cartridges that can be used in the AR-15 and AR-10 pattern rifles. At least they got 6.8 SPC in there.

I love my .223 AR’s but my DPMS .308 tops my A list. It’s so much more versatile than the .223.

I’m with Soup. After much advice, I decided on 6.5 Grendel for a hunting AR. Then I checked the prices on 6.5 Grendel uppers. I’m now trying to decide what caliber my hunting AR needs to be.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
