Good

Dumbest thing I’ve heard of but:

An Arizona couple accused of sexual abuse after taking bath-time photos of their children and then trying to have them developed at Walmart are suing the state and the retail giant.

Hope they win.

Quote of the Day

Rusty on gun polls:

Too many Americans still haven’t figured the term “assault weapon” means “a regular rifle that looks cool”.

Why health insurance is expensive

Comparative chart of the cost of medical procedures in certain countries. I dunno that I’d have the same procedure at 1/10th the cost if it was in India.

Hats off again

National Police Shooting Championships thanks Brownells.

Brownells does a lot for the shooting sports and gun rights.

Senate to mandate interest free loans?

The WaPo:

Democrats Target Bank Overdraft Charges

A backlash is brewing on Capitol Hill against banks that charge large fees for overdrafts without asking or telling customers, the latest sign that the financial crisis is shifting the balance of power from banks toward borrowers.

Banks struggling to survive have become increasingly reliant on the fees, which could total $38.5 billion this year.

But congressional Democrats, who pushed through new restrictions on credit cards this spring, now are promising a crackdown on overdraft fees, using words like “criminal” and “rip-off” to describe the practice of letting people overspend and then charging them fees without warning. Most overdrafts are now incurred on debit card transactions.

The result of this will be either interest free loans or not covering written checks. And the fees for bounced checks are usually more because, in addition to a bank fee, the place you bounce a check to probably charges a fee for that.

Bloomberg the loon

Gun owners are terrorists:

This has nothing to do with the right to bear arms, and everything to do with keeping our country safe from terrorists

This is in response to the bill that allows passengers to check firearms on Amtrak trains, like people do on airplanes. This man is truly delusional on the gun issue. Not even the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership opposed this bill.

Educating The Press

NSSF has launched a campaign to educate the press on AR-15s:

Hope and change

Obama administration says dismiss suit seeking benefits for same sex couples.

I got one

Heh

And this guy works in politics

Senator’s Chief of Staff says straight porn will make you gay. Because it turns your sexual drive inward. Err, that’s masturbation, sparky. Not a case of the gay.

Interesting Times

Fuz:

Have we been in similar circumstances before, where a Circuit is hearing (or rehearing) a case that bears very directly on another case for which the Supreme Court is weighing cert?

An interesting week or two.

Doing it wrong

My Fox DC:

At least 22 states that ban texting while driving offer some type of service that allows motorists to get information about traffic tie-ups, road conditions or emergencies via Twitter.

For you middle Tennessee folks

AR Assembly

Nifty video of AR assembly.

Speaking of AKs

AK buried in Africa for 18 years. Dug up, oiled a bit, and fired. Go to about the 2:00 mark.

Ruger SR22

DownRange.TV has the announcement and video of Rugers new AR-15-looking 10/22.

Firearm blog notes it’s similarities with another 10/22 based weapon. Also, not entirely dissimilar to the RB Precision Evolution Stock.

Gun Porn

Glam Guns, must be seen to appreciate.

Izhmash files for bankruptcy?

The maker of AKs and Saigas may go tango uniform. So, how do you make a weapon that costs $100 to make, sell it for $500 and do that?

More on Mayors Against Guns

Michael Silence addresses my concern that no press outlets have mentioned that, in two weeks, MAIG has lost 50 members. He says that the group is mentioned in small papers. I quickly perused the first few news links articles and I didn’t see one that mentioned that 50 members had dropped out. Granted, I could just be missing it. He also notes that the big papers don’t seem to like covering those of us in flyover country. Of course, the press also doesn’t highlight that quite a few mayors have reported being lied to; or reported that they did not, in fact, recall joining but their names show up as members; or that some mayors are upset that their names are affixed to policy positions made by the group.

Meanwhile, the group has removed its handy counter that tallies how many members they have.

Obviously, he’s a racist

Harold Ford, Jr.:

However, the actions taken over the past year have led to real and justified fears that such unprecedented government intervention will become the norm — that the government will just keep growing, with no way to pay for the increased spending.

Again?

Local ATF Agent Arrested Again. At least there was no stand off this time. Looks like a conviction could lead to him losing his gun rights, since his first arrest is from a domestic violence incident.

Something you’ve not (and won’t) see in the press

[Mayors Against Gun] has lost over 50 members because gun owners took action to tell their mayors the truth about this organization.

Seriously, anyone seen any mention in the press? I have not.

TN Attorney General on Park Carry

Opinion here. Some said letting cities ban was an unlawful delegation of legislative power. Nice try but, yes, cities can still opt out of allowing carry in their parks.

Strategery

Good question:

I understand your point, but how are we to judge what is a “good idea” vs. what is a “bad idea”? As I recall, Heller was roundly condemned (at one point) by the NRA as a bad idea, and it’s turned out to be a shining victory.

GBR day 4

A new shooter report

Respecting the office

I’ll start respecting the office when those who hold it start respecting it and the constitution. Until then, they’re all rightfully subject to scorn and derision.

We just had a big media to-do about one politico calling another one a liar. And the story was about how rude that was. Not whether or not the president was lying or not.

Gunny Vids

PDB: I do not exaggerate when I say that this is the most erotic video I have seen in months

Damn, that’s fast.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
