Black man with a gun

At an Obama event. Obviously, another one of those racist white separatists. HT: Sebastian.

Meanwhile, from comments, an observation from NK:

The more black people, the tougher the gun laws. Perfect correlation, state by state and city by city.

  1. Bob Dole Says:

Well yes, the purpose of most guns laws when they were enacted in the last century was in large part to keep black people oppressed.

  2. Linoge Says:

Bob beat me to it – gun control has its roots deep into racism and blatant discrimination. I guess it only figures that some of its modern adherents express those distasteful qualities so readily…

  3. steve Says:

Well, remember we were recently informed that the Obama/Joker poster was a derogatory urban “racial” slander. And we were also informed that “urban” is a code word for “black.”

To put it all in context, when Obamassiah said that the gun laws that work in Wyoming won’t necessarily apply in urban areas, he is really saying “NO GUNS FOR BLACKS!”

    Right from the horse’s……mouth.

  4. Wanda Says:

California has tougher gun laws than most other states and a smaller black population than the national average so I would say the commenter is making a “sweeping statement” that doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.

  5. SayUncle Says:

Hmm. Interesting regarding california as it does have slightly fewer blacks than the national average. But I do think one could amend the statement to say minorities instead of black.

  6. jspence Says:

What doesn’t hold up under scrutiny, Wanda, is the CA guns laws are just plain dumb and are selectively enforced.
Blacks in CA are concentrated in big cities where their crime rate is much, much higher than similar white, mexican or asian cities.
Politically Correct CA can’t or won’t face these facts.

  7. nk Says:

California has the largest black population in the western United States — an estimated 2.1 million according to Wikipedia. I stand by my “sweeping statement”.

Uncle, good point about other minorities. New York’s original Sullivan Law was in reaction to Italian immigrants.

  8. Wanda Says:

California has 37 million residents and only 7% are black. Los Angeles and San Francisco both have smaller than average black populations. Oakland is 36% black and Compton is 40% black. We don’t have anything close to the 90% black population you find in some southern towns. I can’t even find a town with a 50% black population.

Sorry, but I see no relationship between gun laws and black population. As far as “minority” populations go, I’m not even sure what a “minority” is anymore. It seems there are fewer European whites than anything. I think the 2010 census is going to be a real eye-opener regarding California’s population.

  9. Wanda Says:

Hawaii is another state with a very low black population and tough gun laws.

  10. Ian Argent Says:

I’ve been given to understand that CA’s most recent gun laws are a response to racial tensions in the late 60’s

  11. nk Says:

I heard of a man who drowned in a river with an average depth of six inches. That pool he walked into hadn’t heard about the averages. 2.1 million people is not “7%”. It’s a lot of people.

  12. Model Citizen Says:

that guy has huge brass ones to be walking around with an AR15, props! I didn’t think i’d see the day honestly when carrying an AR15 with a mag and a spare one in his pocket was ok to do without harassment – i can’t even walk around like that at my gun range!

  13. Stan Says:

”Under Obama, everyone will get the same health care, that’s socialism,” she said. “It has failed in other countries, you know, like Europe.”

  14. Sebastian-PGP Says:

Oh, come on Wanda, does the expression “exception that proves the rule” mean anything to you? Sure you can find areas that aren’t demographically weighted toward minorities that have strict gun control, but generally gun laws are strict in east coast urban areas and looser where white folk are generally larger percentages of the population, rural, south, and midwestern areas.

Ask yourself why gun control advocates always argue that “we neeeeeeeeeed stricter gun laws in urban areas…” Why do we need them there? We both know what the answer is, but it’s something that makes anti gunners nervous to admit. Nobody likes admitting their position amounts to “black folk can’t be trusted with dangerous objects”.

  15. Wanda Says:

    Sebastian,

I’ve always felt the need for gun control was stricter in urban areas due to density, not demographics.

    Ian,

In the late 1980s, California had several mass shootings and that lead to a whole host of gun control laws being put into play. Remember the shootings at the elementary school in Stockton and the San Ysidro McDonalds?

  16. ben Says:

Right, and the one thing that could actually make a difference, liberalized concealed carry, not in California.

Here’s a funny thing, me, as Bison Armory… my three biggest customers, by State, are Florida, Texas, and California. I was quite surprised by that.

  17. Sebastian-PGP Says:

Wanda, that might be the justification (though it’s an entirely specious one, the NoVA area is just as densely populated as the DC area it butts up next to, but doesn’t “need” stricter gun laws…what would actually constitute that “need” anyway?), but it doesn’t change the fact that the correlation generally does exist.

In other words…regardless of the justification, it does happen to be that those densely populated urban areas are more heavily minority.

  18. SayUncle Says:

I’ve always felt the need for gun control was stricter in urban areas due to density, not demographics.

Ah, the old densely populated area exception to the bill of rights.

In the late 1980s, California had several mass shootings and that lead to a whole host of gun control laws being put into play.

And they don’t have those shootings anymore.

  19. Rabbit Says:

San Ysidro and Stockton were epic failures in nut control, and nothing else. Quit fellating that straw man. It’s unseemly.

    Regards,
    Rabbit.

  20. Ian Argent Says:

As Sebastian reminded me over at Snowflakes in Hell – the CA ban on open carry in incorporated areas was a reaction to Black Panthers, and signed into effect by Ronald Reagan…

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
