$60 is also what Gander is asking for WWB or Rem UMC hollow points in 9mm (50 rd). Absurd.

High prices during a shortage is not absurd, it’s wonderfully rational. I know folks who have 0 boxes of ammo — they would leap at the chance to buy any price, but Joe Bob the Stockpiler has beat them to it.

I wish I had that kind of backlog in my business.

Maybe they could hire some laid-off auto workers and add another shift.
High prices encourage investment in new production capacity. That’s one of the many ways in which capitalism solves problems “automatically”. In effect, we’re collectively waiving dollars in front of the manufactures, saying, “Come on guys– make more” or we’re encouraging potential start-up companies. They then have to weigh their risks, one of which is that the demand will flatten and then drop at some point in the near future.
I remember the gun shows during the Bubba administration (they were hot, Baby) and how they went soft after bush was elected. That’s when we quit doing gun shows. People relaxed. I could happen again, but if you’re in the business it’s placing a bet either way isn’t it?

I have a former co-worker who works at Gander Mtn and he said that everything gun-related there is way over-priced. You can find it at area gun stores much cheaper, but you may have to go to several stores to find it in stock.
