Capacity

People say to me Hey, Uncle, why do you need more than X number of rounds in a firearm magazine? X being somewhere between reasonable and making Sarah Brady cry. And my first response is What’s need got to do with it? My second response is In case I’m attacked by 40 or 50 thugs.

Meh, After the first one or two the rest would think twice.

Alternatively you could just call the police and ask the mob to refrain from action until they arrive.

Single shot Martini-Henry rifles can work well, also, if you have a few of your friends along side at the time.

See Ruorke’s Drift, http://www.britishbattles.com/zulu-war/rorkes-drift.htm as an example.
But I bet they would have preferred both their friends and normal-capacity magazine fed infantry rifles, as at Hue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDy0Z3HSkTE not to mention friendly artillery and tanks.

I frequently make firearms choices based on whether or not it will make Sarah Brady cry. So for me X is somewhere between weeping and outright bawling.

A few months ago my wife and I happened upon a “jumping in” in a quiet little neighborhood near my mother’s house. A jumping in, for those that may not know, is a gang initiation whereby the new member gets savagely beaten by 12-15 existing members.

Thinking this was an assault rather than a gang initiation, I got out of the car to assist the “victim.” As soon as I did, the “victim” jumped up and ran off, and I quickly counted 12 thugs staring at me. Then I remembered my Walther P99C had 8 rounds of .40. Never been so scared in my life.

    I now carry a 13+1 Glock with a 15rd extra mag.

Why do we still have old-fashioned guns that hold a limited number of rounds? LED bulb life these days is measured in tens of thousands of hours. I want a gun that doesn’t run out of ammunition. Throughout history, people have died because they ran out of ammunition. That should never happen to an American.

  6. comatus Says:

Chas sounds like he is joking, but that last is a near-exact quote from JM Browning’s father, who had seen such things. J.Moses took it to heart, to our very great good fortune.

  7. Kristopher Says:

I’m thinking continuous beam laser pistols … like the one in the last episode of Firefly.

Just point, pull the trigger, and wave it around.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
