Maybe next, they’ll get computers

ATF brings NFA processing into the 1990s. Why the process is more than a NICS check done while you wait, I don’t know.

There’s a reason the FBI was tasked with managing NICS and not ATF 🙂

Because the CFR says it has to be more detailed. (And in fairness, that’s what the NFA wants in 26 USC 5812, not some crap they made up.)

(“shall be denied if the transfer, receipt, or possession of a firearm would place the transferee in violation of law. In addition to any other records checks that may be conducted to determine whether the transfer, receipt, or possession of a firearm would place the transferee in violation of law, the Director shall contact the National Instant Criminal Background Check System”)

NICS checks are a different law that checks a list, and in a different way; the NFA checks also check NICS, but that’s not sufficient.

NFA requires the transfer be demonstrated in advance to not result in breaking any laws; thus a more thorough background check than NICS.

    One more place to reform.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
