How to deal with active shooters

The NYPD would like it’s unarmed citizens to hide behind filing cabinets and use staplers as weapons when there’s an active shooter. I’m guessing a 9mm would go through most filing cabinets. May have to test that. Jacob asks:

If ever in a SHTF scenario which would you rather have immediately available:

1. Quality office furniture
2. A Swingline Collectors Edition 747 Rio Red Business Stapler
3. A firearm

That’s no choice at all. In NYC.

I’ve put 9mm through an old washing machine. Maybe they’re counting on all the paper packed in there to slow it down.

Well that idea should be applied to the public officials and their agents. Disarm their hired guns, you according to “the equal protection of the laws”. But no, because only your enemy wants you disramed!

Self defense is a human right, but effective self defense is problematic in NYC.

As for the use of office materials as weapons, the NYPD might have been thinking of The Crimson Permanent Assurance from Monty Python’s movie, “The Meaning of Life.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kH5LCmrM7ow&feature=player_embedded

It depends on the firearm. If all you have is a Jennings .22, you might be better armed with a reliable stapler…

I believe you have my stapler

  6. Reputo Says:

Empty file cabinet = 9mm hole straight through

File cabinet loosely packed = 9mm hole through at odd angle

File cabinet densly packed = 50% chance of 9mm hole through at odd angle depending on entry point and angle

Fireproof file cabinet = probably a safe hard target against 9mm especially if it is packed

Do offices even have filing cabinets these days?

    4. A fat NYPD cop.

So of those boys ‘n gals have girth!

  9. John Smith. Says:

Does anyone here actually think the majority of new yorkers do not have some sort of gun regardless of the law…

  10. Matt Says:

The swingline 747 is an awesome stapler, I have one here on my desk. But it is only going to become a weapon if I run out of .380 ammo between here and the back door. 🙂

  11. Dan A. Says:

    Staples?
    STAPLES?
    They never said staplers.

  12. RC Says:

In all fairness, at least the person didn’t just say to cooperate with the assailant. With the politics the way they are a gun isn’t really an option for most folks.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
