Unclear on the concept

Over at opposing views, Gonzo wonders why the NRA goes quiet when militia types make the news. Actually, no they don’t. The NRA is not a militia. It doesn’t really have much to do with militias. And it doesn’t go quiet since it doesn’t really talk about them anyway. The NRA is a gun rights group.

For the win:

Maybe ridiculous rhetoric like this is why FSA was folded into an umbrella group. Generally speaking, smearing four million Americans with this kind of crap isn’t a good way to make friends.

The anti-gun groups do keep losing money.

Isn’t it like accusing people who attend catholic church of all being choir boy molesters Or all that attend a mosque being car bombers?

  2. Shootin' Buddy Says:

No, these people were not members of our church.

It’s like blaming Methodists for Satanists burning churches.

  3. RML Says:

Jeez . . . I thought everyone knew that Norwegian black metal fans burn churches.

  4. DirtCrashr Says:

It’s all because they’re not wrapped up in Molotov-cocktail hairy-hippie love, and stuck on guns instead.

  5. Sigivald Says:

    No, RML.

Norwegian black metal musicians did, and that was almost 20 years ago.

When they weren’t killing themselves or their bandmates, that is.

  6. RML Says:

    Sigivald:

There have been some copycats, however:

“Justice officials in Brandon, Man. say that a fire that destroyed a church in the town of Minnedosa last February (2006) wasn’t a random arson, but was linked to the following of a Norwegian death metal musician.

“At a recent hearing for one of the three people accused in the case, 19-year-old Deanna Lynn Mathews, the court heard that on the night of the fire the woman and the co-accused, boyfriend Kelsey Ray Taylor, drove from Brandon to Minnedosa to visit their friend Mark Wishart, who has also been charged in the matter. The date was Feb. 11, the birthday of Varg Vikernes, also known as Count Grishnackh and Burzum. The death metal musician is currently serving a lengthy jail term for burning down several churches in Europe. ”

    [snip]

“‘Since Mr. Vikernes burned down churches in Europe… there have been copycat church burnings in California, in Texas, in Italy, in Australia, and many of the people who have been sentenced have purported to be fans of his music,'” said Crown attorney Jim Ross. ”

Whoa, that thing you said about moslems, is it possible that there may be one or two who don’t help the car bombers?

I don’t really think I can believe that. I’ll try, but it flies in the face of all my personal experience with them.

  8. John Smith Says:

I think those guys are doing a fine job. At the rate they are losing support we will have everybody in american on our side before long.

  9. straightarrow Says:

As for NRA’s non-involvement in this issue, I see nothing wrong with it. NRA is not a militia, they don’t pretend to be, they claim any particular support of militias except as incidental to the second amendment. Unfortunately of which they do a poor job defending. They did a better job when they were just marksmanship trainers, at least they were honest about their goals there and did it well, still do.

The militia thing, not their bag.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
