So what’s the big problem with misnamed gun buybacks anyway?
Well, let’s see: Free evidence destruction. Ineffective. Cost taxpayers money. Often illegal (a church in NYC is not a federal licensed firearms dealer). Waste of police resources. If the guns are stolen, the original owner is screwed.
And that’s just for starters.
I’m writing an article for the News Sentinel discussing the idea of allowing teachers with Handgun Carry Permits to carry their weapons on school grounds. I’d like to get reactions from community parents for the story.
To protect the right to obtain firearms for security, and to use firearms in defense of self, family, or home, and to provide for the enforcement of such right.
Not sure it stands much of a shot with the incoming administration and congress. We’ll see.
Randy Barnett on Lund’s criticism of dicta in the Heller Case and originalism.
There’s a lot in the Heller case. Not sure how much will be a factor moving forward.

Attacking the source of anti-gun political capital.
I tend to think Al Gore’s Internets are part of the reason the pro-gun side is successful. The media are not fans of NRA, even to the extent that the press will not even mention their releases. Now, that doesn’t matter much as the word gets out without them.
There’s a renewed call by some Dallas city council members to get guns off the streets — even if it means buying them back.
Buying them back would imply you bought them in the first place.

And I think Ahab is going.
Update: People are asking about very bad things happened at my day job. All is well. Just busier than a three-legged dog trying to take whiz on a frozen lake.
Via Sebastian comes a link of their pitch to Obama. Same old pipe dreams with a few dealer level items thrown in.
Via MRS, some guy has a bunch of military stuff in a storage shed.
They’re pretty smart. Interact well with humans when domesticated. Can be easily trained. Unfortunately for them, they’re made of bacon. Mmmmm, bacon.
ATF issues a press release noting that the inventory of Form 4473 (the NICS check form you fill out every time you buy a firearm from an FFL dealer) is running low due to “unprecedented demand.” They’ve even said it’s OK to make photocopies since demand is so high.
Past info on gun sales here.
Update: Tam has more.
ACORN, that group that Obama was in then wasn’t but then was a little bit or something, wants background checks for ammo purchases.
