Guns = NSFW

A bit back, I got interested in baby hatches, which caused a friend to point me at a relevant comic strip.

Turns out the cartoonist recently developed an interest in shooting. At his government contract job in DC, he mentioned a desire to purchase a bolt-action .22 for paper target shooting. Then he got shitcanned because some of his coworkers were afraid he’d go postal.

If the guy worked for a private business, I would say tough noogies, but I really don’t want my government acting like this.

    And the second, even more fun part of the story is that the Gummint showed up on his doorstep later, because the comic caught someone’s attention, and they determined that making a comic about getting fired for talking about guns constituted a ‘borderline terrorististic threat.’

    Pisses me off to no end.

    Matt pulled down his LJ story about it – I geniunely hope that he’s doing so voluntarily, because I will be even more outraged if it comes out that the .fed is leaning on him.

    If a private company fired someone for talking about the exercise of a constitutional right, I’d still be pissed about it, although in more of a “well, X apparently doesn’t want my money” sort of way. That’s the case whether it’s guns, religion, or free speech.

    That a government contract job got ended like that, followed by enough harassment that he ended up taking down talking about being fired at his job for talking about possibly owning a gun in the future?!

    What the hell!

    I think the .gov holds its contractors to pretty much the same standards as it does itself.

    heh, I’ve got a .22 bolt action (sans scope for the moment), and I live near DC, perhaps I ought to offer the guy a plinking session.

    Srsly though, although it’s likely that the guy is an “employee at will” and at the risk of my libertarian street cred, this guy needs to sue. If only to teach the employer not to be such a namby wishy-washy pants-wetter.

    Fucking soccer-moms, “Every different culture is equally valid and deserves our respect, except for the gun culture”.

    First rule of gun club: don’t talk about gun club.

  9. straightarrow Says:

    I thought a gun club was when you ran out of ammunition in close quarters combat and had to use it as an implement of applied blunt force.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
