The lies they tell

Yesterday Say Uncle posted on the Canadian threat of a lawsuit against American gun makers. This quote was included in his post.

Federal Justice Minister Irwin Cotler made the suggestion earlier this week, saying more than half the guns used in homicides in Canada originate in the United States.

Over 50%. Wow!

One small problem with that number. The truth.

Mr. Wilkins said that Canadian officials admitted in meetings with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice this week “that that figure was just grabbed out of thin air.” He insisted the Canadian government should focus on joint efforts to combat gun-running rather than pointing fingers.
…………………….
Mr. Wilkins told CTV’s Canada AM that the Canadians admitted the figure has no basis. Mr. Wilkins declined to tell The Globe whether the Prime Minister conceded the figure was not substantiated.

I guess they have decided to use the sad tactics of the Brady Center and just lie.

Everything the government says is 200% wrong. Honest. Would I lie?

    really interesting.

    Some quick Brady examples?

Type brady or vpc in the search column on the right.

Brady examples… Well, real quick, off the top of my head, there’s the “43 times more likely to be shot with your own gun.” There’s the “8 children an hour killed by firearms”. There’s the intentional blurring of “assault weapon” and machine guns.

That’s just three that I can come up with at 11:00 PM on a Friday night after several blenders full of frozen mudslides…

Let’s just offset Canada’s claim by suing them for the 50% of our cocaine that comes from their country? Wait . . . what, it doesn’t? Oh, well.

  7. d Says:

very good resource, didn’t see that before.

  8. Roland the headless Thompson gunner Says:

How many gun manufacturers are there in Canada? Para Ordinance and…Did I mention Para Ordinance?

  9. DWPittelli Says:

Wrangler5: But perhaps half of “our” pot does come from Canada. Should we sue them because of the danger from this drug, or sue them because Canada’s is inferior to Maui and Humboldt?

  10. DaveP. Says:

Jay G left off my favorite: “Guns kill childeren”, when ‘children’ includes adults over the age of 18; younger induviduals with records of arrests and prosecution as adults for violent crimes; and juvenile offenders killed by POLICE OFFICERS in the course of commiting violent crimes.

  11. SayUncle » Oh, Canada Says:

[…] Folks in Toronto live in fear of gun violence. In the past, the politicos there blamed US guns claiming that over half of the guns used in crime came from here. Of course, that number was completely made up. Since that was made up, they now blame US guns (though they don’t give a number) and our gun culture: Residents of Canada’s biggest city are living in fear of increasing gun violence and blame their neighbour, the United States, for exporting their gun culture and weapons north, officials told AFP. […]

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
