Heartache

On March 20th, my beloved wife and mother of my children, unexpectedly went into cardiac arrest. She had never presented any symptoms prior to then.

On March 21st, her doctor informed me that her brain was no longer functioning and there was no chance of recovery.

On March 22nd, in accordance with her wishes outlined in her living will, I authorized the medical staff to remove life support. She passed away peacefully at 8:48am central time while I held her hand. She will be missed.

March 23rd would have been our 18th anniversary.

The photo is our last family photo taken March 16th.

No blogging for the foreseeable future. I’m sure you will understand.

    My dear brother,
I lost my wife of 19 years this past November after a years long battle with cancer. We have three children. It was like having my guts stomped on by a spiked boot on fire. You WILL suffer moments of shock and disbelief throughout the day as those initial pains dull. Every photo, every text; every reminder will be as much a source of pain as comfort. NO SUGAR COATING HERE. You will move forward, but it will not get “better”. But, do take some comfort in the fact that she is the one who is not sad. She is not sick. She is NOT suffering. These are the things left for us here to endure. And when the sadness and hurt are overwhelming and hits you like a hammer out of nowhere, PLEASE REMEMBER THIS: Everything has an equal and opposite reaction. The pain, loss and grief in your heart now equally match your love for he in life.!.. Let no one tell you to “let go”, or “move on”.. Rather, hold on, and move forward.! It will never go away. you will never just “snap out of it”.. There will, however, be an evolution and you will adapt. And when that hammer of sadness hits you again out of nowhere, remember her and smile. Let all the good stuff warm your heart, and laugh at all the bad. And thank your creator for the blessing of the time you did have with her. I don’t know you, but you are my brother in this pain. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Stay strong. BE GRATEFUL.. Live and enjoy life for her sake. I am sure that she would want nothing less for you.
    My God keep you.

In about a year or so, you will still have the loss alive in your heart, so be sure to keep your mother’s memory alive there, too, to remind you of what a wonderful person she was, and with that memory, to explain why the loss still hurts so much.
