Taxation

Even with the tax cuts: Americans Spent More on Taxes in 2018 Than on Food, Clothing and Health Care Combined

Meanwhile, the least tax friendly states. Trouble is when those people move to low tax states, they vote the way they did back home.

Yeah I’ll call bullshit on that one; as an average semi-retired chumps like me that gross 65-70K are paying fully half of that in taxes all inclusive? I didn’t read into it so I’m sure the numbers and parameters are twisted to meet their claim, but in that case it is meaningless. So yeah, BS.

That said, why in God’s name that since Ronnie voiced it forty years ago there’s not a flat tax can only be explained by a combination of stupidity, greed, avarice, and a very dark agenda.

JTC – I normally like and agree with your comments. But, you got it wrong on the ‘Flat Tax’ (aka ‘Fair Tax’).

These types of proposals guarantee instant Firearms Registration, as every purchase of every item under these systems must be taxed, and, therefore, must be tracked/recorded. And, they do NOT necessarily eliminate the IRS, or individual States’ taxing authorities.

Basically, these ideas would truly become an albatross around the neck of Freedom. Therefore, I oppose them.

ExpatNJ, true with the consumption-based, value-added, sales-tax “fair tax” schemes…they are nothing more than control systems as you mention, plus are guaranteed to fail as they force (more) transactions underground and into the gray market.

But don’t confuse that shit with a true flat tax, which to me (and Ronnie as I recall) would be a sort of “tithe” system (yes that means one-tenth which if correctly administered would replace all other tax burdens) and would apply to every single dollar of income generated by every single source (looking at you religious and charity orgs) and flowing to every single entity from ditch diggers (does anybody still do that?) to the most hideously wealthy hedge fund finaglers. Collected by a gutted version of IRS and reported on the post-card return we’ve been promised for decades (what was your TOTAL income? Please remit 10% of same). No deductions of any kind for any thing, no shelters, no exemptions period. And of course a primary component is to RADICALLY curtail gov spending so that “tithe” would end up running a surplus. Now THAT’S a flat tax.

Yeah, never work…first and foremost what I call the “tax-avoidance” industry of entire accounting departments and entire firms full of lawyers (who skim easily the entire ten percent that could go directly to gov coffers) would never allow it…and of course those pods are the type that seek political office themselves and line the pockets of others that do…and it would radically reduce the public largesse available to keep the slaves bought so we know what the socialists that infect congress would say about it.

ExpatNJ, I wrote a fairly detailed response which is in Uncle’s moderation queue, maybe it will clear at some point with more detail. But suffice for now to say that what you say is true of the consumption-based, value-added, sales-tax “fair tax” schemes…they are nothing more than control systems as you mention, plus are guaranteed to fail as they force (more) transactions underground and into the gray market, further with businesses forcefully conscripted as tax collectors; horrible plans and far from being a flat tax.

  6. DocMerlin Says:

You are wrong, when it comes to Texas. We found that locals were less likely to vote for Ted Cruz (vs Beto) in the Senate race, than immigrants from other states.

  7. JTC Says:

Well crap, now the whole thing is posted twice, as I thought when it didn’t show up at first that I didn’t hit the submit button…sorry about that.

Still, gives a pretty good explanation of what IMO an actual flat tax is and isn’t…and why we’ll likely never see one.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
