I guess that, for one thing, they don’t trust the average gun owner any more than they trust themselves. That, and they’re collectivists, and so they believe in collective guilt. Thus all gun owners are guilty for the actions of one criminal with a gun.
That makes things very easy– You don’t have to concern yourself with detective work, forensics, warrants, trials, the presumption of innocence, standards of proof, or any of that hard stuff. Just round ’em all up and dispose of them, and the “problem” is “solved”– Collectivists think of it as “getting things done”.
The main reason they want a disarmed America though, of course, is that they can’t get any of their other stuff done so long as so many people are capable of defending themselves. Evil prefers weak, demoralized, already broken victims.

I doubt it will take that many. If they think their black pajama boys hitting people with bike locks is resistance, they aint seen nothing yet.
