Stick to the issues

Yeah, I’m not sure what the NRA is up to with this Carry Guard training stuff either. That and Carry Guard doesn’t seem like a very good deal since it pays out on acquittal. So, if you lose, you go to jail and get nada.

What? Is the NRA trying to become the AARP of the gun world?

  2. wildbill Says:

Next thing you know these idiots (NRA “leadership”) will push for a law requiring insurance for gun ownership or some such BS.

  3. rickn8or Says:

wildbill, don’t be silly; the government can’t make you buy insurance.

So your own insurance company would have a vested interest in your prosecution. That doesn’t seem too smart to me.

  5. rickn8or Says:

Ravenwood, it would seem the insurance company would be happier if you were convicted. (All premiums, no payout.)

  6. Ravenwood Says:

rickn8or, yeah, that was kinda the point I was trying to make.

What are they up to? Money. It’s a bidness. See my comment about gun theft at your post upthread…always follow the money. Yes, like AARP…they get a cut of the profit, and profit depends on taking in more in premiums than is paid out in coverage.

They do seem to say they pay out 20% of legal fees upfront, that most lawyers will wait until the end for the balance. That ain’t gonna work if the insurer only pays on acquittal or nolle prose; unlike ambo-chasers, criminal defense esq’s get paid win or lose, and if you go to jail they’ll come after your ass for their money if the ins won’t pay. And that’s after their big banner lure “EVEN IF YOU DO EVERYTHING RIGHT YOU CAN STILL LOSE!” They neglect to mention that if you do lose, not only do you go to the slammer but they, the insurer, and the lawyers will all abandon you and sue your ass off. A shoot, even a good shoot, is very likely an event that will wreck your life as you know it. In a have-to case, it beats the alternative, but in some ways not by much.

Oh, and why the spec-ops trainers? Well, obviously for promo value, but for the darker motive see your “protection racket” post downthread. Can’t have Billy Bob the neighborhood instructor or even Mas Ayoob infringing on their turf. They don’t make anything off of that, and the Operators are part and parcel of the package they’re selling.

I don’t think the program will survive and I hope it doesn’t. There are good lawyers and firms that are well-versed and experienced in SD/SYG litigation, not a bad idea to have prior contact with one if not necessarily a retainer relationship as I do which I have because of my businesses. That, good training and regular practice are always a good idea, and really all you need.

But as always, your best defense and your best insurance, is situational awareness aka stay the fuck away from locations and situations where deadly defense is more likely. And hope to God you never have to employ it. Knock on wood.

Carry guard seems like over priced training and a plan to separate fools from their money. The NRA should start better vetting and building defensive trainers at the local level. Enough of the old style NRA instructor who waves a real gun around class and can’t bend down to tie his own shoes.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
