The Trumpening: Second Amendment People

Donald J. Trump:

Hillary wants to abolish — essentially abolish the Second Amendment. By the way, if she gets to pick, if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is, I don’t know

Now, as is spun in the press, it’s entirely possible he means that gun rights people may go and try to shoot Hillary after the election. I’m “second amendment people” and I’ve not gotten the urge to go get the best caliber for cankle, so it’s not effectively working on me. Or, even more probably, he meant that the lobbying, legislative, and judicial arm of the gun rights movement may kick it into gear to do something about it in the courts or legislatively.

But he’s such an inarticulate buffoon, a reasonable person can’t tell what he means based on his own words.

Ken White discusses this at Popehat today.

    No, it’s protected speech, libs.

  2. Publius Says:

I think he’s crazy like a fox here. Much like Obama 8 years ago, he often says things that are ambiguous enough you can read whatever you want into them. This allows you to go home thinking about how great he is, and how he thinks the same thing you do, and how he really understands real people like you. It also allows you to go home thinking about what a racist jerk he is. That’s the magic–you fill in the blanks and create your own response based on that, which is at best loosely grounded in what the man actually said. The press is just as guilty of this as anyone–just read the coverage, then go back and watch the tape.
The moral: be skeptical of everyone, feel free to read all sides, but always go back to primary sources and consider the context before rendering your own judgment. This is supposed to be the job of the press, but then…well…we all know what their deal is.

  3. Michael Says:

Crap like this only serves to paint us “second amendment people” as unhinged, crackpot people. It undermines our arguments, and our credibility.

The war against the 2A is primarily a cultural one– a bunch of urban progs desperately virtue signaling to each other. This only reinforces their worldview.

  4. JTC Says:

Yeah, I think effete articulate charismatic PC bullshit has had its turn, and proven it’s Zero Sum practitioner to be the real buffoon, while obtuse folksy speculation and commentary has him and his bitchbeast designate shaking in their mom jeans and mao suits.

  5. SPQR Says:

Democrats have gotten away with provocative rhetoric and gotten free passes. But still Trump needs to quit extemporaneous speaking.

  6. Lyle Says:

“Trump needs to quit extemporaneous speaking.”
Won’t happen. That’s all he’s ever had going for him. It’s brought him up and it may bring him down. If his Wormtounges get their way and turn him into a real Republican, some version of a Mitt Romney or a Bush blended with a Boehner that has all the proper Republican mannerisms and carefully crafted sentences washed clean of any meaning, give him a better hair do with more grey, better makeup and some body language training, maybe turn him on to daily lunchtime cocktails, he’ll go down ever harder. It would be funny though, in a sick sort of way.

  7. divemedic Says:

I don’t see a problem with it. Hillary appoints SCOTUS justices, who then rule that the 2A is dead. Nothing we can do. Except use that same 2A right to correct that decision. Isn’t that what the intent of the 2A was to start with?
That, or we can complain on the Internet about how we should have elected Jeb Bush, because he would have saved the 2A for all of us.
    The choice is ours.

  8. SD3 Says:

Trump is stating, clumsily, the exact and correct purpose of the 2nd amendment: t empowers the people to commit political violence against a tyrannical government. And Hildabeast is clearly an aspiring tyrant.

  9. nk Says:

A small part of the 4% of the population who voted for him will choose to interpret it as meaning armed violence. A very small part — they may have all already commented on this thread. The rest of us know that he had no clue what he was saying because he is a demented old pansy trying to pose as a manly man.

    BTW, you misspelled “baboon”, Uncle.

  10. Ron W Says:

Leftists have long said that the right to keep and bear arms is constrained by being “well-regulated ” in a State militia. That’s “the free State militia”. In accordance with Article I, Section 8.16, that puts any regulation outside the delegated power of the Feds. If SCOTUS ruled such, States can legislate that all citizens in their State are considered their militia, which is in accordance with the definition of the word. Furthermore, the personal right to armed self defense would also be included in the 9th Amendment and, with the 10th, would preclude any Federal interference. ANYONE suggesting that the Feds interfere by enforcement would be suggesting UNLAWFUL violence.

  11. Ron W Says:

BTW. If Trump meant to suggest that armed violence may be a response to the government forcibly removing a right, then it would be what John F. Kennedy more explicitly said, although he considered it “extremely unlikely” THEN:

“… By calling attention to a well-regulated militia for the security of the Nation, and the right of each citizen to keep and bear arms, our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that THE FEAR OF GOVERNMENTAL TYRANNY, which gave rise to the 2nd amendment, will ever be a major danger to our Nation, the amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic military-civilian relationship, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason I believe the 2nd Amendment will always be important.”

  12. Heck Says:

What Trump is doing is brilliant. He is very slyly showing how corrupt the media is. Letting people see it for themselves at their own pace. He is baiting the media and they keep biting. He knows there will be a breaking point where people will vote for him because they hate the media betraying them. It will be pure payback. Watch as people say’ “I voted for Trump because the system was rigged”. Machiavelli and Disraeli have nothing on Trump.

  13. Ron W Says:

@Heck, good point! At least Trump didn’t suggest support for organizations who support and endorse violence and death against innocents and LEO and even meet with their leaders and representatives, like for instance, BLM. Such politicians and elected officials receive a pass.

  14. mikee Says:

Remember Gabby Giffords? The person who shot her, the media seriously reported, was perhaps maybe sorta kinda coulda ABSOLUTELY FORCED to shoot her by a few seconds of a powerpoint-style graphic in a Sarah Palin campaign ad shown briefly on TV months before the shooting, in which Democrat legislative districts (not people) were “targeted” with crosshairs. Or at least the media reported that some people thought that, (for a given definition of “some” which means at least one Democrat spinmeister specializing in demonization of guns, gun owners, 2nd Amendment rights and Republicans).

Trump is toast, because Hillary has already organized her theft of this election, but he should attack the media as hard as possible on this type of rank bullshit.

  15. Phelps Says:

Crap like this only serves to paint us “second amendment people” as unhinged, crackpot people. It undermines our arguments, and our credibility.

Good. If they really think that we are unhinged crackpots, they’ll give us everything we want and treat us with kid gloves like they do the muslims.

The reality is, they don’t, and you are a Useful Idiot for parroting it.

  16. harleycowboy Says:

“…get the best caliber for cankle”

I don’t know what caliber silver bullets come in.

  17. Ron W Says:

The only subtle “sinister” suggestion Trump may have implied was the same thing that occurred on April 19, 1775 when the government troops came to CONFISCATE the arms of the people. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have already suggested that we consider , “Australian-style” gun control which is CONFISCATION of guns. They are the dangerous ones who are proposing armed violence to attack the “rights of the people” or else, how would that be enforced?

They also endorse using the “no fly list” to selectively discriminate against those who exercise their 2nd Amendment rights. That is a SECRET, ARBITRARY VIOLATION of the “due process of law” protected by the 5th Amendment! So tell me, who are the dangerous, radicals who are provoking violence by an UNLAWFUL , attack on the rights of the people. That is the precise definition of “governmental tyranny” I cited (#11) in the quote by JFK .

  18. SPQR Says:

    So many facepalms.

  19. Heck Says:

I could care less what Dem’s and Prog’s think about anything. They are batshit insane. I care only about results. Any vote that isn’t for Donald Trump, or staying at home, is a vote for Hillary. Worrying about what those people think about us is a waste of time. You won’t kiss their ass enough to change their mind. They are insane. Don’t buy the PC crap. It’s just fascism in a pretty wrapper. Since you can’t change their mind, all that is left is to beat them.

  20. weambulance Says:

Most of you would stay on the Titanic if the lifeboats were the wrong color. Pull your head out and get some perspective.

  21. RCCJr Says:

It’s funny how so many people jumped to the cartridge box explanation when it seems readily apparent to many that he was simply talking about the NRA that totally controls Congress (to hear gun banners talk).

  22. Sigivald Says:

I read it, facially, as condoning revolutionary activity if the Constitution is undermined.

Which is, well, the whole point of the American Spirit.

  23. Ron W Says:

Heck, weambulance, RCCJr and Sigivald–all well said!!!

  24. Burnt Toast Says:

The last thing anybody in media wants this interpreted as is that Trump is just trying to scare the 2nd amendment people into voting against Hills.

  25. Chas Says:

The self-serving libtards, with their leftist groupthink, construe everything that Trump says in the most self-serving way. They’re self-serving like that.

  26. Chas Says:

BTW, Mafia Don Lemon hardest hit.

  27. Chas Says:

As for “best caliber for cankle”, my understanding is that the penalty for treason as imposed by the US Federal Government would be the infamous, “hypodermic highway”, like Timothy McVeigh got. “Caliber” as a consideration, being of no consequence, since the feds simply don’t use bullets anymore, just needles. Good bye, Hillary! Sweet dreams, Cankles! Sleep tight! Don’t let the fedbugs bite!

  28. Blounttruth Says:

The one thing he is not is an insider. A criminal in the Clinton Foundation game as many on the right are, and if the 4chan article holds any water, if investigated to the fullest, charges of treason will be handed out on the right and left.
Assange said yesterday that the next leaks are on the Foundation, and that they could well end up putting Hillary behind bars, but that she was only a single piece of a much larger problem. Will have to see how that goes before, but given the current economic situation we are in, and the QE that is still going on to fabricate a market, I hope they bring the entire Washington mafia down.

  29. Paul Says:

I think the Donald spoke well here. The reason for the Second Amendment is to ensure that the people have the ultimate Trump card (sorry, no better word available) for tyrannical government. When the government endeavors to remove your ability to protect yourself aganist tyrannical government, it is time to say no. And if no means 168 grains at 2500 fps, well, as long as they understand.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
