Interesting

Rethinking “break in periods”. I had a Kel Tec P3AT that a several malfunctions in the first few hundred rounds. But I figured that was because it was a Kel Tec.

Do the per round math for 500 rounds and ask yourself; “why do I have to pay that extra price for this gun.”

I have 2 guns that almost never have a problem. One has failed to eject a couple of times using reloads, never new. The other has failed to eject once after hundreds and hundreds of rounds, I blame that one round. These are not expensive guns. They are just good.

I did have a sig in 380 that would only fire 2 self defense brands. I had to buy more than half a dozen different brands and test them to find one that was reliable…I sold the gun, forget that.

When I was a fuzzy cheeked new shooter in the 70s, it was an article of faith among gun writers that pistols needed a “break in” period of a few hundred rounds. The number varied from writer to writer. In the 80s, as CNC machining took hold, doctrine was the pistol should run “out of the box.” I’d say, that the reality is that it varies from brand to brand. Today, I’d expect major brand pistols to run “out of the box” with no break in as long as they’re cleaned and lubed properly. YMMV

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
