Sling bow

This looks pretty neat (though I doubt the guy’s comments about a machine gun):

Found them for sale here. Anyone tried one?

Pathfinder gear, the survival equipment arm of Dave Canterbury (of Dual Survival fame) offers something like this.

  2. Kevin Baker Says:

The ones I’ve seen use a “whisker biscuit” on the slingshot grip as an arrow rest.

  3. Deaf Smith Says:

This is the old ‘wrist rocket’ slingshot modified to shoot arrows.

  4. Crotalus Says:

I remember the old Wrist Rocket. This looks pretty effective as an arrow launcher. What fps does it reach? Some bows and crossbows reach 400 fps.

  5. Archer guy Says:

As an archery guy, I hate it. Why not learn how to use a real bow instead of this novelty?
To me its like choosing a kids light saber toy when an actual saber could be had.

  6. Mr Evilwrench Says:

I’ve learned the bow, have a recurve and a couple of compounds and I’ve gotten at least pretty good with them. I do like the innovation here, and now that I’ve seen it, I’m getting one to try out. It’s a special bonus that it confounds the legislatards; I like to point at them and laugh.

  7. mikee Says:

Wrist rockets can throw a 7.5mm steel ball at around 450-500fps with regular surgical tubing as the rubber bands.

I’d think a much heavier projectile like an arrow (about 3 x to 4x heavier than a steel ball) would go proportionately slower.

So not a 50 yard deer killer.

  8. HL Says:

Archer guy, it’s spelled “lightsaber” rather than “light saber”. Just wanted to clarify. Carry on.

  9. dustydog Says:

HL, it is spelled LyteSabyr. Your spelling is a sexist microagression.

That’s ‘Chief AJ’, a local character and semi-celebrity at the IL gun shows. He’s about 500 yrs old and has more energy than a 2 yr old.

He’s also an unbelievable shot w/ one of those things as well as a normal slingshot (he was on that gun reality show) and a 10/22.

I got to try one once, they’re pretty cool.

  11. Bram Says:

Is he a lefty or are you supposed to aim along your strong hand like a pistol?

Interesting concept. Seems perfect as a survival tool when you don’t want to drag a fullsize bow.

  12. Lyle Says:

The pull weight could, in theory, be as heavy or as light as the designer/builder would wish. Just sayin’. In that respect it would be no different from the long bow, which comes in a wide range of weights. Whatever the performance of the one shown might be, the concept has merits. Then again, a firearm of some kind would work well too, though with a rather more intense sound signature.

  13. Mr Evilwrench Says:

Looking at the site, they seem to default to 30lb, but they have 35 and 40 tubes. This compares to my recurve bow at 45. Bet I could kill a corrugated box in the backyard.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
