Governor signs lifetime permits! However, looking at the pricing structure, it doesn’t appear to be worth the cost.
Also, Haslam signed a bill prohibiting state cooperation with the enforcement of federal gun laws.

“The cost of the handgun carry permit varies according to the applicant’s date of birth and their next age divisible by five (age 30, 35, 40…etc).”
WHHAAAAT?
“Handgun carry permits will be issued on a three to seven year cycle, based on the applicant’s age, and will expire on a birthday that is divisible by five. The renewal fee will still be pro-rated at the same cost of $12.50 per year.”
That is some goofy shit. Lifetime permit would be worth it just to avoid that complicated mess of renewal periods etc…

What’s the point of a lifetime permit whose break-even point is 40 years down the road for a 21 year-old?
When constitutional carry MIGHT happen; when you might Assume Room Temperature any time during that 40 years?
And the older you are when you get the permit, worse bet it is.

The pricing structure and the $500 lifetime fee are both designed to inhibit exercise of the right.
If they wanted you to do that, they’d tell you that you have to do it or pay a penalty tax, like for Obamacare.

At my age, buying a lifetime TN HCP would be as economically feasible as buying an overly priced central air conditioner system for a home in Nome, Alaska, if I had one there.
I’d have to be spending some entities money (read: casino, lottery, etc…) for me to pony up that much dough for the TN revenue tills. And the only reason I’d consider doing it would be to eliminate the renewal angst and inconvenience.
To me, for the most part, this is nothing more than a revenue boosting scheme.

Crawler, yep. Sucker bet in a state that doesn’t allow casino gambling.

It would be good if the State would waive the renewal for anyone over base retirement age like 62.

Yeah, rickn8or, gambling or “games of chance” are only OK if they serve as a method of voluntary taxation. Historically such has been opposed by nominal Christians and clergy, but as a long time student of Scripture, I have not found that. It seems to be a made up “sin” as Jesus called it, according to “the traditions of men”. Politicians and preachers alike are frightened by Liberty.
