Police and military first

US must invest in ‘smart guns’ to reduce avoidable deaths, activists say. Smart guns are a stupid pipe dream. No serious person should even consider them.

Police including the DC and Capitol Police, and the US Secret Service….

  2. Maxpwr Says:

It’s all to get electronics in our firearms that can be remotely disabled by the government.

  3. The Jack Says:

Don’t forget the goal of pricing guns out of people’s hands.

Given you can get cable-locks for under 10 bucks.

That are more secure, and more reliable to deactivate, and cover the majority of “found gun” incidences…

that they’re trying to reinvent the wheel is telling.

  4. Mike V. Says:

I’m a LEO and I’ve seen talk of “smart guns” and devices to allow only authorized users to operate the weapon. I’ve yet to see one I’d consider reliable enough for civilians or law enforcement every day use. That includes the built in locks on some current pistols.

  5. Maxpwr Says:

Even if they were 100% I wouldn’t want it because the electronics inside could be jammed and eventually the government would demand the ability to disable them remotely.

  6. rickn8or Says:

Develop the perfect SmartGun, mandate it and about fifteen minutes after it hits the market, some middle-school geek will have a video up on YouTube showing how to hack it.

  7. Matt Clark Says:

While the idea is novel, it will remain a fairy tale. My computer and phone tell me I’m not allowed in all the time. So just imagine you’re in a sticky situation and your gun just doesn’t work. I’d rather have more risk in my life than to have a gun difficult for other people to shoot.

  8. Lyle Says:

There’s the “I” word again; “invest”. In left-Speak, the word “invest” always means coercion of some kind.

  9. Ron W Says:

Right, Flight-ER-Doc. Because they and ALL elected and appointed officials under whom they work as agents are OUR EMPLOYEES who serve UNDER our delegated authority.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
