Even more on the AR-15 supposedly sucking

From Tam.

Also, check out the 20,000 round and sand test. I wonder if you combine the sand test with the over lubrication test how it’d go? I mean, I read it on the internet.

That Knight’s was dripping with nasty lubricant. It had to be to go 20,000 rounds without a cleaning.

I mean, I’m pretty slack about cleaning guns, but it normally only takes a couple thousand rounds before they start spraying crap on me when I shoot them and I clean them to protect my clothes. Props to John for shooting that nasty thing. The inside of the receiver was so full of nasty cack that you could have planted crops in there.

Well, mine haven’t been subjected to the treatment that ARs get in the military, and I keep them pretty clean and whatnot, so they would probably rack up a few hundred KIA prior to failure. I favor my chances.

I wasn’t a fan of the M16A2 when I used to tote one for the Marines. It definitely misbehaved whenever it was exposed to sand. Back then it was CLP or nothing. The lightest coat possible seemed the best way – I think the newer synthetic lubes are better now. Latter in the National Guard I had one made by FN instead of Colt and noticed some improvement there too.

The problem is that nobody on either side believes anything including tests. The Army and McNamara screwed up the original M16 by the numbers and that set the tone.

It would be nice if we could do a reset, test calibers then platforms without lobbyists, politicians, know-it-alls, and fanboys mucking things up.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
