@cnn: actual journalism

CNN actually has a piece about the bullshit stat that Shannon Watts is peddling about how 74 school shootings have occurred since Newtown in which they correct the Mayors of Everytown:

CNN determined that 15 of the incidents Everytown included were situations similar to the violence in Oregon — a minor or adult actively shooting inside or near a school. That works out to about one shooting every five weeks.

I’m surprised since CNN usually just parrots whatever gun control groups tell them. Actually, they did parrot them but then went and checked this time. Baby steps.

    Methinks they are getting tired of folks pointing and laughing. Baby steps, indeed.

    Probably just “bias? what bias? We did *this* story” plausible deniability maintenance.

    They only did the checking after Charles CW Cooke went through all 74 on twitter.

    You are all wrong.

    Summer just started. An overzealous summer intern, new to CNN and more used to the standards of reporting of his or her High School newspaper than to the rigorous narrative line of CNN, got a little out of hand while nobody was looking and did some actual reporting stuff by checking the stats provided by Bloomie.

    I would guess that intern has been sent back to orientation class for re-education drills for the rest of the month and this embarrassing episode (to CNN, at least) will not be repeated in the near future.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
