Me thinks they hate ‘us’ because we are assholes…

“They” were never claimed to hate us because of the freedom of not having any sort of authoritarian streak in the State.
The freedom in question was the freedom to ignore religion or have one that wasn’t Islam.
The freedom to not have to be married to have sex.
The freedom to be gay and not get stoned to death.
(Yes, some people incorrectly shorthanded it to “freedom” in general.
But “they”, “the terrorists”, in their own words really did “hate us for our freedom” – because they see it as blasphemous license, and literally don’t value “freedom”.
While I appreciate the irony of the statement combined with the way the State is acting, especially lately, we shouldn’t throw out the core truth of the statement for political/ideological points.
The “they” that flew planes into the WTC and attacked the Cole and are shooting at American troops in Afghanistan do hate us for our freedom, as well as real or imagined “interference” with Muslim lands.
Oddly, they never give us credit for protecting Muslims in Kosovo…)

You know what?
I really could give a rat’s hind leg about “them” anymore.
The violent buggering the BoR has taken in the name of fighting “them” is approaching the one it’s been given to keep my neighbors from toking up.
