Handgun carry permits requests up in Tennessee

So much so, that it’s delaying the driver license system.

I went in to renew mine yesterday. It was about 3:30 or so. The waiting area was packed and the line to submit papers and get a number was four deep when I arrived. The guy currently at the counter was steaming mad over something, I think it had to do with his waiting time. The guy immediately in front of me was told he’d have a two hour wait for whatever he wanted to do. I was very glad to have my Kindle with me.

It was then my turn at the take-a-number desk. I handed over my renewal letter and they looked it over to make sure I had it completely filled out. I was ready to be told to wait a couple hours, but I was told to hang on. The clerk entered information into the computer for about 3 minutes, pleasantly chatting with me. Then she had me step over to the blue screen for a picture. “That’ll be $50. Thanks, here’s your receipt. Carry that until you get your card in the mail. It will take anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months, but that’s just what I’m supposed to tell you, it will get there much sooner than that. Thanks and have a great day.”

Me: *blink blink* Okie dokie then.

In and out of there in less than 10 minutes. I don’t think the carry permits are holding stuff up.

Now if we could renew our HCLs online like we do our drivers licenses and auto tags…
Or do it the way they do in Indiana. (But that would mean TN would be missing all that revenue from us every five years.)

    Ahem-Con Carry-cough

That would reduce the lines for people getting permission to exercise a mere privilege. 😉

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
