It explains my issue with global warming alarmists. Well, that and bullshit science that concludes global warming causes everything from gun violence, to making the world colder, to prostitution.

    Oh, I watched a whole fuckin documentary on the “trust me I don’t have a whole lot of evidence but with this fancy graphic I am going to conclusively prove that global warming’s going to cause another ICE AGE OMG WTF” theory not kidding, not being hyperbolic strait up the narrator talked over a changing graphic showing the TRANS-ATLANTIC CONVEYER in emotional and physical distress little sad faces on a sea lane and everything.

    The AGW issue, like the “coming Ice Age” issue of 40 years ago, like cold fusion and room temperature superconductors and petroleum substitutes made from jojoba beans, will decrease in public awareness as the critical lifeblood of the issue – public funding for those involved in pursuing it – moves to other issues.

    For some it is a jihad, a crusade, a moral imperative. For many more it is a paycheck.

    When university, federal and industrial research funding moves to the next big thing, so will most of the current generation of researchers, and all of the next generation.

    I came into research when finding substitutes for platinum catalysts was in vogue, and since then have seen multiple cycles of funding priorities that last from 5 to 20 years. I was into both superconductors and plasma diamond synthesis after that, as well as organic-based insulators for semiconductor chips, and despite the apparent non-connected nature of those things I did well off all of them.

    What is the next big thing? My bet is on something like novel water purification methods, food synthesis or other materials science somehow related to population growth. We haven’t had a Malthusian crisis for a while now, I suppose it is about time for another one.

    AGW causes AGW denial, so the fact that no one believes it is proof that it’s real.

    Well, if we’re going to blame global warming for causing everything under the sun that someone dislikes, I guess it wouldn’t be too farfetched to say it’s the reason we have a lying, radical and corrupt narcissist in the White House…
