“It’s our policy”

Armed agents raid no kill shelter to seize baby deer about to be released. Then kill it. Your government at work.

The DNR Facebook page was taken down for a while; so may people were telling them what they thought of this crap that they couldn’t take it.

It’s back up, with the defense being basically “Hey, we’re doing our job, so shut up.”

I heard that Satan is really into death. With the way these government agents seem to like to kill people’s dogs and now baby deer, it is starting to occur to me that they may have something in common with Satan. They are into death.

This is the kind of story that I wish would go national. Americans need to understand this is what their government is turning into. SWAT teams engaging in no-knock raids against the most innocuous of non-violent crimes. Had the SWAT team killed some of the shelter workers, I wouldn’t have been surprised. This isn’t even a Republican vs. Democrat issue. Police power, heavy handiness, officiousness, and brutality go up no matter which party is in power. This is a Govt vs. the people issue. We need to realize that they more authority we give the give, the more they exercise he arm they use against us.

I’m sure in 1944 some people were saying the same thing.

  5. Tam Says:

You want to know who killed that deer? The clueless suburbanite who spotted a fawn under a bush, looked around and didn’t see the mother, and said “Oh, this deer must be abandoned!” and took it to St. Hippie’s No-Kill Shelter.

One down, a few million to go.

  6. tincankilla Says:

i honestly don’t care that much about the deer – they are endemic to wisconsin and chronic wasting disease is a real issue there. that the mother “abandoned” the fawn could be that she died of CWD.

what i do care about is heavy-handed policing against a faith based organization doing social justice work, then equating their law breaking with drug dealers. if they’ll do this to a group of kind hearted retirees, its time to cut their budgets.

I hope somebody at least got some good “venison veal” out of the whole deal…

A little digging seems to indicate that Carla Drega has a bit of history with the local and state .gov and may not be the most disinterested or reliable of witnesses. Although the number of dudes and the fact that they didn’t call ahead for an appointment is not in dispute, the “S.W.A.T. raid” stuff increasingly looks like hyperbole.

They could have avoided a lot of the bad press if they’d just sent a guy with a clipboard and a .22 to shoot Giggles.

  9. nk Says:

I linked the story and posted a request for boycott of Wisconsin beer and dairy products on Facebook and Reddit. F***ing cheeseheads.

  10. Jack Says:

It also didn’t help when the DNR boss likened it to a drug raid.

Yeah, that was some pretty serious analogy fail on the part of someone whose job it is to sell your actions to the public as sane and reasonable.

  12. OldTean Says:

What a mess, it does sound like govt. overkill but the problem starts with well meaning people who discover a little fawn lying on the ground and assume it has been abandoned because they don’t see the mother. Female deer leave their young huddled up in a bit of a nest on the ground and they forage for food and they also move to avoid people walking around. There is kind of a 100% chance the doe was within 50 yards of the idiots who stole her baby.

Number two, any kind of an animal shelter should have told the people bringing the fawn in to report it to the DNR and see if they should return it to the place where they kidnapped it. Rules might vary by state but you don’t screw around with wild animals because they do not belong to you.

As for the raid on the place by the govt. officials I would like to hear the whole story and I also think they were stupid for killing the fawn on the premises. I will assume that there was a good reason to put it down due to the resources necessary to raise one that can be released back into the wild and of course possible disease issues.

There are millions of deer over most of the US so this is not a protected species and idiots need to learn to leave critters alone when they visit their homes in the open air.

I own the weapon of choice for Bambi.

    And it’s not a 243, a 270 or a muzzleloader.

    It’s my Ford Explorer.

This attitude (Hey, where’s mom? MUST BE SHE ABANDONED HER BABY!!) can also be seen with humans.

Like the mom who was arrested for child endangerment because she left her newborn in the car while she went to pay for gas. 30 feet away, in full view of the car, but ZOMG VIOLATION!

  15. Tam Says:

Elsewhere it is alleged that they darted it on the premises and carted the tranquilized deer larva off to be euthanized.

  16. Gerry Says:

I sent this to a friend who is a WCO back east. He laughed that in 20 years he never had an issue confiscating an “orphan” animal except for crying kids and sometimes being cursed out for taking the family pet.

He said he always explained why to people why it was done and why it was a really bad idea to try and make wild animals pets.

He also said that if you want to be on the SWAT team, join the State Police.

  17. Cargosquid Says:

Has anyone else noticed that bureaucrats from the TSA to these guys mouth, “Its our policy.” or “The actions followed policy.” or some such pablum in response to complaints….as if THAT EXPLAINED OR EXCUSES bad behavior…and they think that it does.

  18. Frank Says:

It must have been “COMING RIGHT FOR” them.

  19. Tam Says:

I love how the same media that so thoroughly corrupted the reporting of the Zimmerman incident is suddenly a fount of accuracy when they confirm our own pet prejudices…

  20. Alien Says:

RE: Tam’s comment at #19 – Michael Crighton described this and called it Gell-Mann Amnesia: you read (or hear) a story in the media about which you are somewhat expert. You realize everything in the story is incorrect, and much of it backwards (Crighton referred to this reversal of cause and effect as the “wet streets cause rain” theorem). You then turn the page, or listen to the rest of the stories and assume those are all completely correct.

  21. Ted N Says:

Most frustrating part of the whole deal, to me anyway, is that according to the story arrangements had already been made to get the critter out of there and to the park in IL.

Nope, can’t wait one more day, Stormy the the Jackboot doesn’t make a drive for nothing, that’s for sure.

  22. OldTean Says:

There are laws against taking wild life and transporting wild life period. Then you mix in going across state lines and it gets more complex. No argument that the swat stuff was overkill, at least the way it was reported. The crime and story is that a deer was taken from the wild illegally, transported illegally and retained illegally by a shelter that should have known the law.

If you touch or move a deer it should be dead, in season, with a tag attached to it or, you have to have a whole mess of permits and paperwork to show that you have met a lot of requirements to move wildlife. Wild animals are not yours to kidnap and keep penned up and there have been laws against that for over 100 years. Deer are kind of like big squirrels and they need to be left alone to do their deer thing.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
