    90% support all sorts of things when there’s no effort required on their part. For example:

    Version 1: Do you support government action on x?
    Answer rate: yes, 90%

    Version 2: Would you cross the street to support government action on x?
    Answer rate: yes, 10%

    90% may have supported an undefined idea of “universal background checks”. Once explained, they would not.
