Congresswoman Diana DeGette (D-ranged) is ignorant

She seems to think that magazines are bullets and can only be used once. Honestly, how can we have a “national conversation” when the other side is so devoid of facts and utterly ignorant on the issue? I mean, you could probably tell this woman we’re banning space aged ray guns and she’d buy it.

I’m glad YOU could get something out of her statement. It was completely incomprehensible to me.

Nothing like complete ignorance of a subject by someone who’s supposed to be writing legislation on it…

  2. Tasso Rampante Says:

The scary part is that she thinks she’s banning ammo, and is happy about that. That sound bite will play next year.

  3. rick-in-ny Says:

The REALLY scary part is that enough people in CO thought this imbecile was qualified to be in congress and elected her. Lawmakers get replaced-or arrested – every once in a while. I don’t know what to do about the voters though. That’s the real problem. These nitwits don’t elect themselves to office. The people in this country put them there.

  4. JKB Says:

Her spokesperson doesn’t do her any favors with this:

DeGette’s spokeswoman Juliet Johnson issued a statement Wednesday, saying the congresswoman mispoke.

“The Congresswoman has been working on a high-capacity assault magazine ban for years, and has been deeply involved in the issue; she simply misspoke in referring to ‘magazines’ when she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism,” Johnson said. “Quite frankly, this is just another example of opponents of common-sense gun violence prevention trying to manipulate the facts to distract from the critical issue of keeping our children safe and keeping killing machines out of the hands of disturbed individuals. It’s more political gamesmanship that stands in the way of responsible solutions.”

    Working for year?
    Deeply involved?

she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism,”

Anybody here ever reused a clip? and if not, did you toss it because it didn’t have a feeding mechanism?

  5. SPQR Says:

Not Colorado. Denver. Although Colorado did elect Mark Udall and Michael Bennett who are not any brighter.

  6. oldradartech Says:

While this is a particularly troubling example, I could make a convincing argument that anyone knowledgeable enough to be qualified to debate the issue would have to be on our side of the argument, unless their intentions are not honorable.

  7. JKB Says:

BTW, DeGette had this response to a citizen who asked her what he was to do to protect himself if someone broke into his house after this law was passed:

“Good news for you,” DeGette responded. “You live in Denver, the DPD [Denver Police Department] would be there within minutes. . . . You’d probably be dead, anyway.”

1:25:00 in the video. Weird part is the crowd laughs, mostly at the first part. So apparently they got the joke about the cops being minutes away.

  8. Don Says:

It seems to me to be thoroughly irresponsible to propose or vote on legislation on a topic without educating oneself well enough to at least understand the proposed legislation’s effects, but there is precedent for not even reading a bill before voting “yes” on it ( a “no” vote is always defensible)…

  9. Old NFO Says:

Just stunning in the ignorance displayed… And they keep re-electing them!

  10. alanstorm Says:

What’s the issue here? Sounds like typical liberal “thought” to me.

  11. comatus Says:

They cross themselves up on “cartridge” a lot, presuming that it’s a factory-sealed, preloaded magazine. They’re so used to print-cartridges, can’t adjust.

So many words started out as technical firearms terms, and got re-purposed for somebody else’s gee-whiz tech. Makes for fun puns (a legislator of this caliber…), but it’s pretty dangerous when the shoulder thing goes up. In this case, it’s good to remember that “bore” was ours before she got to be one. She should be muzzled.

  12. Bram Says:

Well… That is how it works with my rail-gun.

  13. Matt P Says:

she simply misspoke in referring to ‘magazines’ when she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism,” Johnson said.

ALAS! tis true! My 1903A3 cannot be reloaded from clips! Nor can my Garand! Nor can my SKS! Nor can my AR magazines!

Wait, the Congress woman said something stupid? Oh! well, let me offer further stupidity… that should make it all better!

  14. Kristophr Says:

Ya know … congress DID ban personal energy weapons. They slipped it in when they finally got around to banning personal nuclear weapons.

  15. Sigivald Says:

    Kristophr: They did?

Where is it in the USC (or CFR)?

I mostly ask out of curiosity because it’d be hilarious to read.

  16. IllTemperedCur Says:

So according to Ms Nitwit I wasted my money when I bought Russian 7.62x54r surplus on stripper clips because I won’t be able to reuse ’em.

Damn. Russian strippers will cheat you every time.

  17. JKB Says:

    IllTemperdCur,

Take heart. Michael Walsh commenting on this over at NRO Corner makes this observation regarding magazines (and clips)

Turns out you don’t have to throw them away after all; you can recycle! Who knew?

So be proud of your support for recycling.

  18. Stretch Says:

Yet when I suggest Literacy Tests for voting (and candidates) I get called racist.

  19. Sigivald Says:

    Stretch: How would it help?

She’s literate, I’m sure. (As are, probably, almost all those who voted for her.)

Hell, I wouldn’t be too surprised if she IQ tested above 120.

The problem is ignorance of specifics combined with a desire to legislate anyway; she’s not illiterate, possibly not literally “stupid”.

She’s a fool. Hard to test for that.

  20. aerodawg Says:

“she simply misspoke in referring to ‘magazines’ when she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism,”

Hey numb nuts, I’ve got a whole pile of clips in the closet that have been reused multiple times. Want to try spinning your BS again? Third time’s the charm…

  21. chiefjaybob Says:

These clips, if they were to be re-used, would certainly cause the gun to tipover, like Guam, with too many American soldiers.

You must have to be incomprehensibly stupid to be a legislator, or the job makes them that way. How else can such stupid ideas be explained?

  22. JKB Says:

I love that the comment on “clips” is not some comment during a public meeting but a spokeswoman’s response, i.e., a comment that was critically considered over time as a rational response.

But keep in mind, banning high-capacity magazines has been DeGette’s signature issue for many years.

  23. rickn8or Says:

JKB, that’s what I don’t understand. DeGette’s crusade to ban high-capacity magazines has been her signature issue for years, why is she so dismally ignorant of the subject? Unless of course, it’s not ignorance but deliberate evil.

“There is none so blind as them that will not see.”

  24. Ritchie Says:

Technical details are irrelevant. They may even be used as a distractor. These persons’ intentions are not honorable. They cannot be reasoned with or persuaded. They must be defeated.

  25. Bruce MacMahon Says:

I didn’t think it was possible to put that much stupid in a human-sized container.

  26. Braden Lynch Says:

If Degette and Feinstein were ever in the same room they would be a critical mass of stupidity that would either explode and annihilate the planet or implode and cause a vortex of ignorance that sucks all intelligence into it. Either way, not good.

She did not make a mistake in speaking! Her defective reasoning and ignorance was clear and word substitution was not the issue. Her damage control handler was just lying to cover for it. Degette just OWN your hoplophobia and ignorance on a subject you unjustly legislate on.

  27. SwampFox Says:

Magazines are what Kate Upton appears in. They cannot be reused after the load has been spent.

  28. TigerStripe Says:

I’m sorry but Nancy Pelosi is far more stupid that Congrefswoman DeGette. Still DeGette is quite ignorant and willingly so…
