Democrats and guns

By a party line vote, the ban on weapons that look like assault weapons gets out of committee.

The inly good thing about today was Ted Cruz taking Feinstein to the woodshed.

The Cornyn amendments would have been pointed to as loopholes when this failed, as it would, if the ban were to be passed.

    Yep.

    Uh, oh.

What happened to all those Dems from pro-gun States quaking in their boots, just eeeaaager to vote against this thing? Franken (MN) voted for it; Klobuchar (MN) also voted for it.

My prediction: With a couple of minor, meaningless amendments, Feinstein’s bill will pass the Senate, with every single Dem and Independent voting for it. On the Republican side, keep an eye on McCain, Coburn, Kirk, and Collins. In the House, Boehner will stab us in the back in exchange for a paltry gesture on the budget — maybe a small trim to entitlement programs.

I have never bought into the excitement of seeing an occasional Dem. who is a true 2A proponent.

You will occasionally see a decent Dem. (e.g. Zell Miller), but opposition to gun rights is central to their faith and ingrained in their DNA.

I certainly don’t trust Repubs, as a group, on gun rights, but I pretty much dismiss the banter about whether a Dem (Joe Manchin) will or will not vote for gun rights.

Maybe he and a few others will do so and maybe they won’t, but I don’t buy into the drama.

Ditto for the RINOs Mike named above.

    Fixed it for you.

Remember the pro-gun Speaker of the House, Tom Foley? When the real crunch came in 1994, he choose party loyalty over political principle. The Democratic Party is the party of gun-control. There is no escape from that harsh truth for supposedly pro-gun Democrat officeholders.

Democratic party U.S. Senators who are up for reelection in 2014 in red states will be allowed by the party to vote no on most gun control measures in the current year, because most of those measures are expected to fail in the House of Representatives. So a no vote costs the party nothing, yet preserves the party hold on those red state seats.

But if an anti-gun measure come up that might pass or fail based on the vote of those red state Senators, you can bet the party would bring whatever pressure was necessary to make those Senators toe the anti-gun party line. A threat reinforced by the big money that petty tyrant billionaire Bloomberg is willing to burn to unseat pro-gun Democrats during Democratic primaries.

But wait, I thought Harry Reid was going to stop this bill dead? You mean, the Democratic Party will ALWAYS vote against gun rights?! B-b-b-b–but, Unc told me to stop being such a partisan, they knew what side their bread was buttered on, and they would vote their conscience!

If you vote for Democrats, you are voting for gun control. If you don’t admit it, you’re either a dishonest partisan hack or an idiot .

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
