So, the NRA, Wal-Mart and Joe Biden walk into a bar . . .

That’s the joke, if you need a punchline, make one up.

Anyhoo, there was this meeting where a bunch of political players were going to tell corporations, gun rights people, and others exactly what was going to happen. Make no mistake, that was what was going on. They do not want to negotiate or “have a conversation” they want to lecture and, like the crocodile, promise to eat you last. So, what was the result? Well, here’s a transcript of shots across the bow.

The NRA has a statement:

We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment. While claiming that no policy proposals would be “prejudged,” this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners – honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen. Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works – and what does not.

Biden has said he’d have recommendations by Tuesday. Here’s hoping they are rightly ignored. The key here is The House. Write your reps.

Words mean things

We’re not going to take your guns but we do throw around words like “confiscation”

Astroturf

The new Giffords Gun Control Group. You know, based on comments here, I’m going to guess my humble website has more grassroots activists than most gun control groups.

Why this is serious

Because you’ve not had a White House willing to fall on the gun control sword before. I think the best leverage on our side is a reminder of what happened in 1994. YMMV.

Famed internet tough guy still tough, on the internet

If gun control goes further, he’d kill someone. Then takes it back. This would be what I call unhelpful for a couple of reasons. First, it’s bad and horribly stupid PR. Second, if that’s actually your plan, why are you telling everyone that?

Call your reps err Wal Mart

No, really. They are meeting with Biden’s sham of a gun control group tomorrow and they need to hear from you. So, from a reader:

Ok, everybody, don’t call stores, call corporate. Here’s the number: (479)273-4000

That gets you the home office. Tell them you want to express an opinion and they’ll immediately transfer you to another line where you will talk to a real person who will take your comment and record the call.

They are getting calls going both ways right now. They said that they have made not decisions going forward except to hear what Biden’s group says and then weigh that with the comments from their customers.

So start calling. Have your family and friends call. Overwhelm their switchboard with calls and we may keep them on our side.

I would tell them that if they cave, they lose a customer and that customer’s family. And you’ll tell anyone likeminded that you know. So, get on it.

Also, contact your federal representatives. If everyone who bought an AR-15 magazine since 2004 called their reps, these bills would never get out of committee.

Stroke of the pen, law of the land

Obama exploring executive orders for gun control. Seriously, the conflation of gun safety or violence with gun control is silly. As to the proposals, nothing specific. But it is interesting that the article notes how Wal Mart didn’t plan on attending and now does.

David Gregory: Still not arrested for breaking DC’s gun laws, despite hundreds of thousands of witnesses to the crime

The DC police concluded their investigation without an arrest. The police have sent it to the DC Attorney General, who will decide.

And you can donate to the David Gregory Legal Defense Fund.

Gun lawsuits on the move

Several cases are moving through the courts

In Texas

Well, not really, it’s Austin.

The city of Austin is breaking the law by banning gun shows. Some internet-led activism happened. The Texas AG weighs in with talk of a double-barreled lawsuit. Heh.

indoctrination

Math homework: distribute the wealth. No, it’s not a joke.

Repealing gun free school zones

A bill to do that. This bill would remove the federal prohibition on guns at and near schools.

And the entertainment industry too

Biden is meeting with the NRA and the entertainment industry folks to talk “gun safety” which really means gun control. The NRA has more to do with gun safety than the professional victim crowd. Anway, I think that that getting the entertainment folks involved is likely for PR.

More on gun sales

A look at the NICS numbers, no surprises.

Why are anti-gun activists so violent?

You’re a number to be reduced, if you have a gun or a penis.

Too controversial

Glenn uninvited to some Republican event because he is “pro-gay”. That’s controversial?

Heh:

World’s Largest Religion: 14, Alabama’s Largest Religion: 42

You know who is going to have their names and addresses published on the internet next?

The folks who work at Gawker.

And who is this Alex Jones person?

And why do liberals thing he represents gun owners and “the right”?

The mass school shooting that didn’t happen

In Tennessee, nut job tries to get his mass shooting on only to be shot dead by an armed school resource officer. Oddly, this story isn’t getting much press.

Seems to have gone on too long

A MA man was attacked by a bobcat. Then it attacked his nephew. The pinned it and beat it with a metal crutch. The man’s wife retrieved a gun and they shot it. Since it is Massachusetts, I wonder if it took so long to retrieve the appropriate weapon due to their safe storage laws?
