Hypocrisy of gun control advocates

Democrat Illinois State Senator Donne Trotter, and staunch gun controller, was arrested for carrying a .25ACP onto a plane. Couple things about that, the first being it’s universally known on the internet that the .25 sucks. And he’s said of carrying guns:

What you’re doing here [is] just basically creating part-time police officers who have not gone through the extensive training, who have not had the psychological evaluations, who will be getting out there who feel now that they’re–they are stronger, they are badder, they are tougher because they have this nine-shooter on their hip

The laws, he thinks, shouldn’t apply to him.

    Nine shooter?

  2. nk Says:

It’s a felony, under Illinois law. Bye-bye political career (and law license if any).

  3. Old NFO Says:

Bet HE has a carry permit in CHicago…

  4. nk Says:

    Security guard. Interesting.

  5. John Smith. Says:

I hope he gets the felony conviction.. Next time he gets caught he goes to the prison with big hairy men who think he has a nice ass!

  6. rickn8or Says:

Oh, let him go. Being caught with a .25 Auto is punishment enough.

(Not the there ever was a snowball’s chance he’d ever be convicted anyway. Remember the name so if you’re ever in the same situation, you can ask for the same deal he got.

  7. Art Says:

The law, actually, DOES NOT apply many politicians. Under a state law dating back to 1872, mayors and aldermen are designated peace officers. And, conveniently, peace officers are permitted to not only own but carry handguns.

Many Illinois pols, vigorously push gun control for the peons, exempting themselves. Such is life in the Peoples Republic of Illinois.

  8. comatus Says:

“Oh, and double-oh-Donne? Just leave the Beretta.”

    I have a .25 Beretta. It’s moderately dangerous jewelry.

  9. jefferson101 Says:

If we pursue this using the usual Brady bunch trope that he’s compensating for feeling inadequate about the size of his johnson, it even looks worse.

Think for a moment about how inadequate someone would have to feel in order for a .25 to be compensation. I mean, really!

    Heh.

  10. Mu Says:

I take a .25 over no gun any day of the week.

  11. Geodkyt Says:

    Jefferson101 FTW.

  12. Kristophr Says:

Yep. What he did was perfectly legal in Mordor … sorry, Chicago.

He ran afoul of federal law, which requires him to have some kind of actual POST certification.

  13. Kristophr Says:

I’m sure the US congress will fix this by exempting congresscritters from TSA searches.

  14. SDN Says:

Kristophr, he’s state not fed. If he had been a fed and traveling to Congress, he would have been immune from arrest.

  15. Sigivald Says:

Oh, let him go. Being caught with a .25 Auto is punishment enough.

I have (much like comatus, but lower-budget) a .25 Taurus.

It’s a cute little toy, and much better than no gun.

Internet weenies who want to complain about it can go polish their HKs.

  16. Huck Says:

“just basically creating part-time police officers who have not gone through the extensive training, who have not had the psychological evaluations”

Hell, that sounds more like a lot of the FULL-time LEOs these days!

  17. rickn8or Says:

Sigvald, I’ve got a Taurus myself. And a couple of CZ DUO’s. No HK’s though; I’m more of a 9×18 fiend.

  18. lumpy Says:

    I’ll quote blazing saddles.

Naw Sheriff you don’t want to shoot Mongo, You’ll just make him mad.

Trotter is still claiming He used the .25 when He’s working his security job. Would you hire a security company that thinks a .25 is an effective tool? I’m not buying the Pimp gun excuse as The Tribune’s columnist John Kass may elude to in his editorial tomorrow.

  19. Gerry Says:

And I thought he was just happy to see me.

  20. Kristophr Says:

SDN: well then, calling all Illinois politicians LEOs would be the next step.

If they make them “only ones”, then they won’t have to worry about this again.

  21. Chas Says:

It’s only going to get worse.

  22. Mr Evilwrench Says:

Could he lose any harder? Being from Ill Annoy, having a name that sounds like he has the hershey squirts, and carrying something that someone would be mildly annoyed with you if he found out you shot him with? Why hasn’t he already drowned himself in a bucket?

  23. Mike Says:

    1) Anyone who is dumb enough to “forget” a pistol in a carry-on through airport security is too dumb to be a legislator, even in Illinois.

    2) Anyone who has jumped through all the flaming hoops to be licensed to carry as a security “professional” in Illinois and carries a .25 with a single magazine as a duty weapon, is even dumber than that.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
