My Father, who had the Dubious Privilege of growing up in Eastern Europe during World War 2 taught me that if you Fight Fair, you Lose, and may Die.
He’s still Alive, and so am I.

I know I heard it from an Air Cav officer in 1994 in a slightly different form:
