Trouble is rank and file don’t buy it

Mayor Bloomberg says police should strike to protest gun control. See, the government provides and then takes away as punishment in his mind. What a twit.

    Two points:

ONE: If it is even not completely implausible to you that the police could go on strike for this reason, or for any other political reason, go buy a gun, get training, and be prepared to see to your own security. If a state actor like the mayor of NYC thinks that police service is something that can be given, and taken away, according to his preferences, don’t ever trust that it will be there for you. You can’t afford that trust.

TWO: If any group of policemen ever decide to actually go on strike, either officially or by ‘blue flu’ or by some other pretext to skirt the prohibition on police strikes, don’t bother coming back. The population will necessarily work out some other arrangement.

  2. Bubblehead Les Says:

Wonder what Mickey Bloomberg would do if, in the middle of some outdoor speech, all his Personal NYPD Bodyguards just started to walk away, with the last one speaking into the microphone “The Mayor says the Police should go on Strike to Protest the lack of Gun Control. Just to inform you all, he now has Zero Police Protection, ’cause we’re on Strike, following his orders.”

  3. Reluctant Lemming Says:

Bloomie has just recommended breaking the Taylor Law, passed in NY and denying govt workers the right to strike. Apparently he does not have knowledge of his own laws, and now he is advocating that govt workers in NY who want to make a point should strike. I think so too.

Second, he has affirmed a major reason to own guns. To protect yourself from criminals when the po po aren’t there.

Third, he also affirmed another reason to own guns. To protect yourself from violent govt officials who decide to terrorize their citizens into submission by letting criminals run rampant in the streets.

What a genius. Too bad he has bodyguards. He’d probably kill himself just crossing the street.

Shorter Bloomburg: That’s a pretty nice place you got there. Be a shame if anything happened to it.

  5. snoopycomputer Says:

Picture it: a 48-hour mass exodus of every legally owned gun and every soul who would fight evil(by any kind of means) to ranges elsewhere in the state for a weekend of fun shooty goodness.
Publicly advertised for weeks beforehand, all of them leave, and Bloomberg gets his wish of a gun-free-NYC.
Bloomberg sees it: its just a weekend, but its a start.
Gunnies see it: massive training weekend! Woot!
Wolves see it: so no one will fight back, and no one has guns?

  6. Seerak Says:

I just got back from “The Dark Knight Rises”, and I am pretty certain that Bloomberg hadn’t seen it yet when he made this comment. In my view, TDKR says as much about “gun free zones” as it does about Occupy.

  7. Chas Says:

Markie Marxist sez: “The police should go on strike for more gun laws? We already did that with Fast and Furious. We told ATF to take a long lunch. A very long lunch. Ha! Ha!”

  8. Grayson Says:

    It’s official.
There is NO ONE left in New York City with any balls or backbone whatsoever.
If there was, they’d have this vile stinking bastard Bloomberg dangling on a rope hanging from a lamppost.
Advocating that police officers go on strike – to further his loathesome political agenda?
    The mind reels in disgust.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
