Fun Guns

I’ve seen this meme at a few places: What is the most fun firearm you own and why?

Mine is a toss up between the suppressed 10/22 or the suppressed pistol. I’ve ditched the Walther and am looking for a replacement but it was fun. Those two guns have been used to introduce new shooters many, many times. Fun first guns for kids. And you can shoot them all day without hearing protection and it’ll only cost you a few bucks. And everyone loves the satisfying ‘ping’ when it hits steel.

My little Beretta 21A is just pure fun for me.

Limited practical value compared my more powerful pocket guns, but DAMN is it fun and CHEAP.

Marlin 39a. I can plink with that all day.

Remington 700 chambered in .300 WinMag. Obnoxious, loud, and pleasing right down to my balls.

The newest gun is always the most fun for me. Currently, that’s a Bersa Thunder 380.

About a decade ago I bought a Savage Youth Model Single Shot 22LR, on sale for $65 at a Walmart. I put a 3-9X scope on it for about $39, and used it to teach my son and my daughter how to shoot a scoped rifle.

The thing is, that little rifle is amazingly accurate. The trigger is smooth and about 6 to 7 pounds, the scope is fine out to 100 yards, the tiny stock doesn’t seem to matter because there is no recoil, and my kids and I have shot more ammo through that one rifle than any other we own, except maybe the 10/22. And the shooting with the Savage has been more accurate than any from that rapid fire plinker, by far.

So if you are in Pflugerville, Texas, at Red’s range, and see a fat guy laboriously loading tiny 22’s one at a time into a tiny scoped rifle, that is me, and I’m having great fun.

My favorite fun gun switches between a modified Ruger 10-22 and a modified (long ago & not by me) M1 carbine with a 2x scope & green laser. The 10-22 is more accurate than the M1 both are just plain fun to shoot, make nice bangs, run with total reliability and – — — damn, they’re enjoyable shootie ways to turn money into gunsmoke.

I dig my 300 Blackout AR. Suppressed with an EOTech, great fun on steel targets. Sounds like a cap gun with no kick. It is double fun on a lower with a happy switch, which is costly.

Kel-Tec Sub2k. It’s like a toy that shoots for real. Only something NFA would turn money into noise faster.

Without a doubt, my favorite gun to take out is my tricked out Ruger MK III with a red dot and suppressor. It puts a smile on my face and everyone’s face that shoots it.

  12. Jerry Says:

Big plus 1 at Mikee, only mines a Marlin Youth Model. Single shot, with a Simmons .22 Mag 3×9. Squirrels don’t fear me anymore, I don’t give them a chance.

    AutoMag III (.30 carbine)

Every time I shoot it I end up grinning like a madman. It makes awesome fireballs.

  14. Aaron Says:

Ruger Mark II I bought used with the Volquartsen package. More accurate than I am, and collects a lot of admiration at the range whenever I take it out of its case.

Camp 45 and Camp 9 PLACK! PLACK! PLACK! PLACK! All day long!

    STG FAL.

Perfect amount of recoil, built like it was intended to fit a 6 foot tall person (one of the few), and fantastic controls.

And easy to snap shoot and hit the top of a 5 gallon bucket at 200 yards off sholder.

As I tell others, It aint me, its the gun. Its so easy to point, it takes you shooting and it is a blast.

  17. Bobby Says:

    *top=Cap of a 5 gallon bucket.

Can it be “owned”, cause I don’t have it anymore? Israeli Nazi Czechslovakian Mauser in .308. No numbers or markings matched. But the action was as a tight as a duck’s behind (terrible trigger but all military ones are), and the .308 barrel was pure.

  19. Bob H Says:

My wife’s Five-seveN and PS90. “Kicks like a slightly irritated gerbil” and is way more accurate than I am. She can do 2″ spreads from a rest at 40 yards all day with the Five-seveN, and 2″ at 25 yards standing. The PS90 is fun and highly accurate at 100 yards though reloading the 50 round magazine takes forever.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
