In Tennessee

Employee Protection Legislation, at NRA-ILA.

This is one of those bills I’m uncertain about. On one hand, forcing someone to allow guns on their property doesn’t sit right. And on the other, my car is my property and I can keep in it whatever I want.

Yeah, it’s a tough one. Now throw in stuff like some Insurance Companies won’t give you coverage if you do allow Firearms; or if you are leasing a Site, but the Landlord won’t allow it; or some Employee who is Anti-Gun sues you for causing an “Unsafe Workplace Environment” and sics OSHA on you. Not so clear cut, especially when the 2A is on Equal Footing with the 9th and 10th Amendment.

Let’s add in that some workplaces tell employees their cars can be searched at will without notice (to prevent theft or drug use) while on company property, with immediate termination for illicit substances found, or for refusal to allow search.

Also, who is responsible for a gun lost to a car break-in while the car is parked in the employee lot?

There is a balancing of rights and responsibilities here that will eventually come down in favor of individual self defense, rather than employer convenience. The question is just how far will the balance lean in that direction.

My company says that no guns on property, so I park across the street and walk over. Just proves how stupid that rule is. Most companies lease space from another company, so having a firearm in the car isn’t breaking any rules! Check to see if the company you work for truly owns the parking lot. Mine does, so I park at the Bob Evans across the street. There is a range I shoot at about 1/4 mile away, so when people ask, I say I’m following the rules but shooting trap after work.

I think we (libertarian types) are not using the ‘public accommodation’ concept well.
It plugs the philosophical hole between property rights and civil rights when it is well used.

I use the your right stops where your fist contacts my face logic expanded to, your property stops at my property.

Car is mine. Building is their’s. They can choose to allow my car or not, but cannot affect their side my property.

Texas just passed this law, and there have been NO BLOODBATHS yet. Check the news at 6 tho. If “the employer” doesn’t want cars with guns in them on their property, all they have to do is BAN PARKING! It’s my car/truck and I’ll carry what I damm well please.

The reason why many businesses post against lawful concealed carry. Most businesses don’t actually care if anyone on their property has a gun, except that they don’t want liability.

This is how the government (through the courts) creates an environment where our RKBA can be curtailed. You don’t need to pass a law prohibiting CCW. All you have to do is give signs the force of law, and create a legal environment that rewards businesses for putting the signs up.

That is why I ignore signs and carry anyway. My life is worth more than just someone’s liability insurance.

I like don’t ask, don’t tell in this situation.

Car is mine. Parking lot where my car is sitting is theirs…. In order to park in that lot I have to go by their rules… Pretty simple case…

Here in Kali, back in the 80’s, the company discovered the petty cash box was empty and decided to search everyone’s car. Next day, major red faces. Turns out the thief used the founder’s key card to access the building the previous night, and their lawyers told them the search was a major bad move on the managers personally and the company itself. Told them they were lucky no one complained to the DA or a lawyer.

    Things might be different now.

Florida passed same law about 4 years ago. I approve, and don’t believe there will be a bloodbath from employees shooting up work places. Government already places numerous requirements on employees and retailers in the name of public accommodation.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
