I thought it was a pro gun site

So the National Gun Victims Action Council FB page is overwhelmingly comprised of pro-gun comments (click “everyone (most recent)”). Also, how do they claim to have 14M members but only 140 FB fans?

Because the victim disarmament crowd lies all time?

To their credit, Elliot Fineman said in his latest post “To the people who said we had removed their comment, we have not removed a single comment to date, and will not do so unless the comment is obscene, racist, calls for violence etc.”

He also challenges us: ” Enormous research supports every statement of fact on our website http://www.gunvictimsaction.org . So much research that I have $25 for the first person who cites a specific fact with supporting evidence that is incorrect.”

Everything they write is bizarrely incoherent though.

I saw that 14m number today too. I knew it was bullshit. I think they are counting the number of people who are “touched by gun violence”….since the beginning of time.

I know people who have more friends than that page has fans. And I’m definitely going to go to Starbucks on the 14th. Buy myself a bag of coffee, and post it on their Facebook with a picture of my 1911.

Thanks for the suggestion AZ. I was just going to get a coffee and a pastry, but I’ll get a bag of really good coffee too.

Go with a friend, and post pix of each other OCing at Starbucks on the 14th. Faces optional, you know, just make it obvious where you are.

As to the 140 members: they need a unique email address to join facebook. Free email sites, like yahoo and gmail have software to prevent one computer from making a whole bunch of addresses. So 4 or 5 people using multiple computers at, say a university’s computer lab, apparently can generate ~ 140 email accounts and facebook memberships.

I’m not guaranteeing that is what happened, but anybody with energy could ‘friend’ them and estimate how long they have been on facebook from how long each account has been posting. My money is that all 140 joined facebook at the same time, and that a surprising number don’t have pictures of themselves or their kids as their avatar.

Of course they have 14M members; they absorbed the entire membership of American Shooters and Hunters and added a few of their own.

“…I have $25 for the first person who cites a specific fact with supporting evidence that is incorrect.” Way to put your money where your mouth is, Elliot.

  9. Thirdpower Says:

Before they had any attention paid to them, they were at about 70. The majority of ‘new’ likes are pro-gun people.

  10. Timmeehh Says:

    Maybe it’s a spoof?

  11. Bubblehead Les Says:

If they had 14 Million Friends, there’d have been so much Gun Control Legislation passed that the old “9mm vs 45ACP” debate would be down to “Which H+R for Home Defense? The 12 Gauge or the 20 gauge? The Debate Rages!”

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
