Sights and winning

I like living in a world where law professors are blogging about choosing Aimpoints over EOTech. I prefer the EOTech for a few reasons but the training community tends to favor Aimpoints for durability and battery life. I think I could switch and be perfectly happy.

Also, a nice breakdown from Lyle on the different types and explaining co-witnessing.

I have an Eotech on my .50 Beowulf.
I picked it because it’s not a long range cartridge and the Eotech has quicker target acquisition.

It works great except I’ve had to put some electrical tape on the lever to keep the batteries from popping out while shooting it.

My uncle works for EOTech (at least today he does, such as things go there), so I’m biased in that direction.

  3. HL Says:

Love my EOTech, but I would happily take an Aimpoint as well. The Aimpoint looks cooler, which is–of course–very important.

A bunch of pros were talking about them and everyone agreed that EOTech was the sight you really want to love. But then it breaks and you can’t.

One described trying to find the stupid battery spring at night in Iraq using NVGs. That was the last time he ever had one on his gun. One SWAT guy described how he had figured out how to use glue to prevent it from falling out. Again.

It’s a really stupid design issue that EOTech just can’t be bothered to fix.

I haven’t had any problems with my EOTech, and I LOVE the way it co-witnesses with the irons.

My EO XPS30 is great when I know the gun is going to get used. Find on button, adjust brightness because it doesn’t remember, go.

Which I why I picked up an Aimpoint T1 for the bump-in-the-night gun under the bed. It only requires the go step.

My main (only) complaint with my EOTech is it turns off after 8 hours, and there’s no way that I know of to change it to constant on. I don’t want to be messing around with my optic if I need my rifle in a hurry. I’d be fine with a relatively short battery life (say, 1000 hours on two AAs) if I could just keep it on all the time. I have a pile of AA NiMHs and a number of devices I’m rotating them through regularly, so what’s one more?

Meanwhile the Aimpoint CompM3 on my HD rifle has been on almost constantly for approximately a year. I’ve owned the optic for almost 5 years and changed the battery once, and that was mainly because I just felt like I should around 2 years ago, not because it needed changing.

aczarnowski; It doesn’t even require that one step. It’s a zero step sight in my house, ’cause it stays on. You replace the power cell every one or two years and you always have plenty of reserve power.

I like the big window and the 1 MOA dot size on my EOTech. I haven’t had a chance to try an Aimpoint with the newer 2 MOA dot yet though.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
