ATF investigates tofu explosion: investigators were baffled at first when a woman cooking tofu in her Northwest Portland apartment Sunday night caused an explosion that blew out a 4-by-6 foot picture window and caused an estimated $15,000 in damage. The woman suffered a small burn to her hand but was otherwise unhurt.

It’s all been solved. The bonehead had the grease in her skillet catch fire, so she ran with the pan to the sink, and flooded the pan to put out the fire. This is usually warned against in 5th Grade Home Ec classes, but she did it, and the resulting steam explosion blew up her kitchen with such force, it blew out a large picture window, the metal frame of which landed across a 4-lane avenue. The big mystery is how she’s relatively unburned after the blast.
