Bet it hurts NOW, but at the time I bet he didn’t feel shit, and his ears were ringing with adrenaline.

  2. Cayton Says:

I imagine it hurt a lot less than .357 Magnum or .38 Special would have. Yikes!

  3. PISSED Says:

Wait… There’s no guns in New York… this story is a lie.

  4. junyo Says:

There was a gun a couple of years ago that did the same thing by grabbing the cylinder and stopping it from advancing to the next chamber.

Just goes to show how unreliable revolvers are.

We had an armed high school hostage situation. The suspect (a student) was disarmed by two other students. Discharge of the pistol was prevented by one of the students by jamming a finger behind the trigger while they struggled.

  6. North Says:

Bugs Bunny always used a carrot in the barrel.

  7. PISSED Says:

    @North…LMAO!

  8. Bubblehead Les Says:

Just be glad the Goblins aren’t practicing Retention Techniques.

  9. TomcatTCH Says:

    right ring finger, not thumb:)

  10. guffaw Says:

Isn’t this standard procedure at close range? And if not, why not?

  11. Kristopher Says:

Yup. At body contact range, fend off the attacker with your off-hand while firing.

Any pistol can be malfed by a knowledgeable person who can get their hands on it.

  12. Jake Says:

+1. I’d much rather have a bruised/torn/cut hand or finger – or even a bullet hole in my hand or a finger or two blown completely off – than get shot/cut/stabbed in the torso. At that point, it’s life over limb, and hand injuries are much less likely to kill you than torso injuries.

  13. Beaumont Says:

All the same, it would be nice to have a study of how many times such desperate measures have been attempted, and how often they actually worked. Someone who believes that they can consistently malf a handgun by grabbing it is someone who’ll end up with an embarrassing epitaph.

  14. Cormac Says:

I remember seeing this on Bones…she used the fleshy bit of her hand between her thumb and forefinger.

I cringed, but it was cool to see.

  15. Mike LaForge Says:

“used the fleshy bit of her hand between her thumb and forefinger.”

Had a next-door neighbor patrol cop who did the same thing back in Rome NY a hundred years or so ago. Shook him (and his wife) up a lot. He got off the street a few months later.

  16. John A Says:

James Garner did something similar when Walter Brennan pointed a pistol at him, I think in Support Your Local Sherrif, poking his pinkie in the barrel. Brennan objected, if he fired it would probably explode and wound him – Garner retorted that it would not do his hand much good either.

  17. Gnarly Sheen Says:

I swear I read “Cop stops guy from shooting him by jamming his thumb in the barrel” and had flashbacks to old Bugs Bunny cartoons.

  18. Crotalus Says:

    Shades of “Lethal Weapon”!

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
