Welcome to the fishbowl

There is no privacy. Using only a profile pic, investigators obtained social security numbers. Careful what you put on the tubes.

    Massively overhyped.

They *guessed* SSNs based on managing to go from picture to tagged public picture to get name, and then publicly listed date and place of birth.

DOB and Place will often get you the first five digits of the SSN, and from there, it’s not so hard to do some guessing, especially since numbers are assigned in order.

So there IS privacy – if you don’t tell the internet these things.

(Mostly what this tells us is that the SSN system is inherently insecure and should never be used for identity verification for anything real important.)

There’s plenty of privacy in the modern world. Just not for you and me.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
