Why didn’t they do that in the first place?

TSA loses naked scanners. This is not any sort of victory. But it does show their utter contempt for the people that they didn’t do this to begin with. Now, about that radiation threat?

You underestimate the canny nature of the Yankee capitalist manufacturer and salesman.

First you sell the government a product that meets their inadequate specifications, and get paid.

Then you point out a problem with the government specifications, or better yet, have a public uproar over the specs, which requires the government to solicit bids for upgrades to the original product. You sell the government the upgrade, and get paid.

Then when the public uproar continues because the spec change did not address the basic problem with the product sold to the government, you sell a few more upgrades, each one more expensive than the last, until finally the product is unrecognizable from its original incarnation.

At that point, you tell the government about this great new product you have designed, which is ever so much better than the original product you sold them, and you get them to spec out a request for bids on that new product.

Lather, rinse and repeat, as the saying goes.

But under their previous argument, this means it will never be safe to fly!! What will we ever do?!? Planes will be crashing out of the sky daily!

And those scanners still give out radiation!

I say get some of those film bags that block x-rays and wear them as underwear.

My kids still arent flying anywhere; radiation from the scanners or being felt up from a perv, not much in the way of options. We’ll drive, thanks TSA!

Folks, this move (and the MSM spin on it) is designed to make the TSA appear “responsive” to the “privacy concerns” of American travelers.

The purpose is to mollify the masses, to lull them back to sleep: it’s the bureaucratic equivalent of cutting off a finger to avoid losing an arm (or a head). To survive, the TSA voluntarily gave up a minor capability (at best), retaining its authority to violate our rights and bodies.

  7. Robert the Bruce Says:

Where’s the evidence that they gave up the capability of taking and storing the skin depth images? All they are known to have done is change what image the public is allowed to see.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
