Don Young: Made of awesome
Nice:
Alaskan Congressman Don Young refused an award this evening from The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the Humane Society Legislative Fund that would have honored his work for animals in 2010. While capitalizing on the good work of local humane societies that shelter, spay, and neuter animals, the HSUS does not own, operate, or directly control a single animal shelter in our country, despite a budget of well over $100 million.
“HSUS are hypocrites, plain and simple, and I will not join them by accepting this award,” said Rep. Young. “Local animal shelters and humane societies do excellent work by caring for neglected and homeless animals, and through their spaying and neutering programs. This organization, however, has absolutely nothing to do with animal welfare.

Good job congressman. Has anybody seen their T.V. ads with idiots wearing uniforms & badges? Trying to make you believe they have police powers?

Don Young will always be special for calling my old congressman an ass on the floor of the house.

I know that there is a meat industry astroturfing campaign to discredit the HSUS, and I know that their language is VERY similar to the language that Rep. Young is using. The campaign involves a fake ‘grass roots’ blog, started by a regular guy who just wanted to let people know about how awful the HSUS is. Of course, this regular guy is really an employee of a PR firm.
I’m not going one way or another on what Rep. Young is saying, but it seems a little suspicious.

I dunno about anyone else, but I’m having a hard time getting my righteous indignation on about that, Jay.

All that I’m saying is that Rep. Young is using the same language as an astroturf PR website run by industry lobbyists.
When a politician does that, you ought to at least question his sincerity.
