Well, not exactly free. You have to sign up for Prime, which is $79/year.

  2. SayUncle Says:

Ah. True. I’ve had prime for years though.

I’m thinking about switching. Right now, I’ve got streaming only from Netflix, because all the DVDs I want are back-ordered or unavailable. It’s $8 a month, or $96 a year, but if I got Amazon Prime for watching movies ONLY, and never took advantage of free two-day shipping, it would only be $6.59 a month AND it’s free for the first six months AND if you’re a college student, which I am, it’s free for the first YEAR. That means that if I use it for two years, it will save me $113 in streaming movies.

Which is still cheaper than Netflix, and then you get the unlimited free 2-day shipping with it.

When I get a chance, I’ll take a better look. The only questions I have right now are a) how does the selection compare; and b) can I watch it in Linux (instead of having to reboot into Winblows like I do with Netflix)?

If the answer to those questions is “similar or better” and “yes”, I’ll drop Netflix in a heartbeat.

armed_partisan, the free streaming is only for paid Prime members. Student accounts aren’t eligible.

It works great in Linux, but the selection is not so great.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
