She’ll probably get sentenced to stoning by the sharia court for being disrespectful to men.

Her handbag, not a baseball bat. A baseball bat would be really bad news for her, as it would show premeditation. In the UK if a burglar has entered your house and is threatening you, you may only use proportional force and you may not prepare for the eventuality by having conveniently placed defensive weapons. Having a cricket bat next to your door might be OK if you are known to regularly play cricket, but not otherwise. I’m not aware of anyone successfully arguing in UK court that a baseball bat has any purpose other than as a weapon, except during school games for under-11-year olds.
She also appears to continue her assault on the victims as they are trying to escape, which is right out. The fact that it allowed their detention and arrest for their property crime will not be a factor, because at no time were they threatening harm to any person, so she cannot use protection of self or others as an affirmative defense.

If only she had listened to that NPR how to deal with a mugger segment. At least she didn’t use her illegal samurai sword on him.

Well, if Granny gets hassled by the cops, we should take up a collection to bring her over here. My mom’s from Scotland and would love to have her over for tea.
